Feature Request: Pop-out Video Player Window for YouTube
Summary: Add the ability to pop out YouTube videos into a separate window showing only the video player itself, without any surrounding YouTube interface elements.
Current Behavior: Brave currently supports picture-in-picture (PiP) mode for YouTube videos, which creates a small floating overlay. Users can also detach tabs, but this brings the entire YouTube page (comments, sidebar, recommendations) into the new window.
Requested Feature: Implement a one-click option (via context menu or button) that pops out just the video player into its own clean, resizable window - no YouTube interface, no comments, no sidebar, no recommendations. Just the video player with standard playback controls.
How It Works in Vivaldi: Users can tap/click on a YouTube video and it opens in a separate window containing only the video player. The window can be freely resized and positioned anywhere on screen, functioning as a standalone video player without any of YouTube’s surrounding UI clutter.
Benefits:
-
Clean, distraction-free viewing experience
-
Fully resizable window (unlike PiP which has limited sizing)
-
Better for multitasking - position video anywhere on screen
-
Ideal for multi-monitor setups
-
Eliminates algorithmic distractions (recommendations, comments)
-
Keeps standard video controls (play/pause, quality, subtitles, etc.)
Use Cases:
-
Following tutorials while working
-
Watching content on secondary monitors
-
Managing multiple video windows simultaneously
-
Reducing screen clutter and distractions
