Brave currently has no native way to download videos from websites directly through the browser. Users have to rely on third-party extensions or external sites, which are often privacy-unfriendly or ad-heavy, contradicting Brave’s core privacy philosophy.
**Proposed feature:**
- A “Download Video” option in the right-click context menu on any playing video.
- Quality selection (480p/720p/1080p/Audio only).
- Downloads go directly into Brave’s own download manager, with no external server or third-party API calls involved.
- A toggle in Settings > Additional Settings to enable/disable this feature.
**Why this matters:**
- Keeps Brave competitive with other privacy browsers (e.g., Soul Browser) that already offer this.
- Reduces reliance on shady third-party downloader sites/apps known for malware and tracking.
- Aligns with Brave’s vision of being a privacy-respecting, all-in-one browser.
**Use case:**
I frequently download educational or public domain video content for offline viewing due to inconsistent network connectivity, and currently have to use untrusted external tools for this.
Thank you for considering this feedback.
Sincerely, Deb Halder
