Right now I use a webp converter plugin, but I have to deliberately right click and press Convert, when it should be built into the Save Image As… function by default.
It’s a definite bug. A deliberate one. I’ve been searching for a solution. It’s chromium, not just Brave. Maybe Brave can fix it.
You can inspect the link, even download the links from your own web server, and Brave is converting them to webp.
Most of the posts on the net I was able to find try blaming the websites. This is NOT the case.
Firefox will download the links just fine.
Dragging and dropping, as well as, save convert the PNG files to webp.
I did read somewhere it’s because google paid for the format, so that probably explains why they want to force everything to convert to it.
I would hate to have to use Firefox to download images, just because Brave doesn’t work.
Yes, they can be converted again after download, but there is loss.
I just want to download the actual file from the web server as-is without conversion.
We shouldn’t need extensions to fix this, that’s a sloppy solution.
I hope Brave can address it.
Save the raw file as-is!!!
