Face ID check Cannot Initiate Due to Placement of "Unlock" Button Behind Keyboard

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Description of the issue:

While returning to the Brave app after getting a MFA code from another app, the Face ID process hangs and requires the user to hit an “Unlock” button towards the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, the button is hidden behind the keyboard that popped up on the website that requested the code before having to switch apps to get the code. Therefore, the Face ID process cannot be completed and the app itself is locked. The only way to regain access is to completely close the app.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open brave app and go to website that requires a login with MFA enabled

  2. Start the login process and proceed until you encounter the requirement to enter a MFA code

  3. Switch from the Brave app to an authenticator app using the swipe up and switch feature in iOS

  4. Completely open the authenticator app, get the code, and then swipe up to return to the Brave app

  5. Attempt to open the app

Expected result:

Face ID is automatically completed at both the operating system level and by the app and the Brave app opens. If a hang up occurs in the automatic Face ID process and the user is required to hit “Unlock”, the “Unlock” button is visible and the user can press it.

Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.83 (118)

Mobile Device details: iOS 26.1, iPhone 17 Pro Max

Additional Information:

Not sure if this is an Apple issue or a Brave issue, but I have encountered it several times while using the Brave Browser (version 1.83 (118) and not with other browsers or apps. I am running iOS 26.1 on an iPhone 17 Pro.
Because I have Face ID enabled in the app settings and at the phone level (by long pressing the app on the home screen and selecting enable face ID), the app sometimes hangs on the face id part of reopening the app (after switching out of the app to another app and then reopening the app). The hang up does not always happen, but it seems to occur while the app and/or operating system is transitioning from one face id check to the next one while I am returning to a website that requested a MFA code or some other security data (I am not sure which Face ID is occurring first, the app or the operating system).
The Brave app then requires me to hit an “Unlock” button on the screen to reopen the browser. Unfortunately, the keyboard is popped up on the screen from when I was in the last website (because it was asking for some sort of data like a MFA code), and I cannot see the “Unlock” button at the bottom of the app. The screen is just frozen in that configuration and I cannot reenter the browser as a result.
I have tried to hit enter on the keyboard, turn the phone sideways, hit the spacebar, touch the open screen above the keyboard, etc. but nothing will expose the “Unlock” button and let me touch the button to reenter the browser. I have to close out the entire app (by swiping up) and then reopen the browser, which breaks the security authentication that was happening in the website I was browsing, or whatever process was going on in the website I was accessing, causing the website to error out and force me to start the process over on the website.
If I disable the Face ID check setting in the Brave app and only use the Face ID check of the iPhone itself, I do not get the request to hit “Unlock” and the Brave browser opens just fine and lets me enter the data that the website requested.
I never seem to have the issue with the double Face ID hanging up with other browsers so I am mentioning here in case there is something with the app that can be fixed without turning the Face ID setting off in the app. As I said earlier, the problem seems to happen the most when I am in the process of authenticating to a website that is requesting a MFA code and it only happens with the Brave browser app on my iPhone.
If you are wondering why I have Face ID enabled twice… it may be overkill and cause other issues or delays in opening apps, but I do not trust apps or the phone to work perfectly and/or do what they say they are going to do. As an example, for some reason, one or both of the Face ID requirements keeps getting turned off when the app updates or is reinstalled, the iOS updates, or for reasons that are still unknown to me. I would rather err on the side of caution and enable it twice than risk allowing a phone thief access to my important information, which the Brave app has, especially since it is synced with all of my Brave instances and open tabs on all of my devices.
