I’m a long-time Brave user and I want to start by saying thank you — Brave’s focus on privacy and speed is why I keep recommending it. I’m writing with a friendly feature request that would make the Android version much more useful for multilingual users like me.
On Android, Brave currently doesn’t support browser extensions, and that gap has been painful for my main use case: translating video subtitles (for example, YouTube captions). Brave’s built-in translation cannot translate video subtitles, and YouTube’s own auto-translation is often inaccurate or sometimes simply doesn’t work. I rely on translated captions to follow tutorials, lectures, and videos in other languages, so this is a frequent and important need.
If full extension support on Android is difficult to implement, would you consider adding a lightweight userscript manager (a Tampermonkey-like feature) to Brave Android? With a userscript manager, users could install/enable small scripts that target video sites (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) to extract captions and apply translation — either by calling translation APIs or by integrating client-side solutions. This approach:
Solves the subtitle-translation use case without requiring full desktop-extension parity.
Lets power users reuse existing community scripts and easily update them.
Keeps Brave’s UI clean while offering advanced functionality to those who want it.
Can be implemented with privacy in mind (explicit permissions, option to use local translation, or user-chosen translation services).
Possible minimal requirements that would already be very helpful: support for content scripts that can read/modify page DOM, a simple script installer UI, and per-site script toggles. Even a modest, well-documented userscript API would unlock a lot of community-driven tools for Brave Android.
I’d be happy to help test this feature or share an example userscript that translates YouTube captions if that would be useful. Thank you for considering this — Brave is already great on desktop, and adding this capability to Android would make it significantly more powerful for international users.
