Expose the font and spacing of menus as an option

The spacing in bookmarks menus in chromium and firefox based browsers keeps inflating. It’s maddening to me personally, as it changes where the bookmarks are–how much scrolling one has to do to get to certain bookmarks. It makes it harder to find often-used bookmarks whenever this is updated, and it seems to update at least once a year.

Please just expose this spacing and/or font choice as an option so users can roll changes back if they want to. This should including the kerning for the bookmark toolbar too.

All of the other applications I use frequently in Windows have basically the same font and spacing in their menus. I don’t have to adjust where my memory of menu items is every time my DAW updates, for instance. I’m tired of browsers that frequently throw off my muscle and visual memory of where my bookmarks are.

It’s the entire reason why I got Brave in the first place: because it was slightly behind on updates vs. chrome at the time, it had tighter menus when I switched. I just updated Brave a few days ago and maddeningly, there is more white space in the menus, yet again, for like the 3rd or 4th time since I switched to Brave, it seems.

I can’t be the only person that gets annoyed by this, as at least one geek friend agrees. There is at least one post in here with multiple users complaining about this for an update. And I can’t figure out why it has to be inflated repeatedly, other than to try to keep up with larger and larger screen resolutions. Except I don’t personally upgrade my monitor every year, right? A gigantic chunk of users won’t either. Even if I did, it wouldn’t scale with everything else. And again, other applications that I use never do this. It seems to be a particular obsession with web browser devs. I would also think it would be fairly trivial to implement.

Honestly, this has become my #1 concern with browsers. I don’t care about security or AI BS or whatever else vs. this issue. I want my bookmarks to stay the same. I don’t want my bookmarks toolbar to lose icons to kerning inflation. I want my organized news folders to not get confusing to me every year or so. I want the GUI to be frozen in place.

Thank you.

I agree completely. For example the old compact context menu format that is still available in Chrome 125 takes up less than half the screen height on an 1920x1080 screen. The new one on Brave barely fits within the 1080 screen height!

That’s how silly this new menu spacing is.

Very frustrating, and this spacing obsession is spreading everywhere like a virus. Bookmark menus, popup menus, settings dialogs, even operating system menus are starting to be infected.

The spacing should be configurable across all menus. People are using vastly different devices, screen sizes, pixel densities, and everyone has different preferences and especially usage requirements. Going with the lowest common denominator will destroy the usability for a large group of people.

I hope this can be changed so that we can get configurable spacing in the future.

Let the users choose based on their own preferences.
