Download brave in win 11, dangerous file alert from Surfshark


Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

1.Downloaded updated brave in win 11
2. Surfshark flags up dangerous file in download and quarantined it
3.Stopped installation as it had stalled

Expected result:

**Brave Version( check About Brave):**latest download version on your website

Additional Information:
The file is called
Drop.Win32.Winselfcopy.6858

I’ve now discovered despite the alert and quarantining of the downloaded file the latest version of Brave has installed. Maybe a Surfshark fault, I wouldn’t normally expect that.

I would recommend you to scan it on virustotal once.

I wouldn’t trust everyone, but Brave has gained my respect over many years.

Yeah this is likely a false positive – happens frequently. If you downloaded the installer from the official website then it’s highly unlikely there is anything malicious.

Will reach out to some security folks and see if we can submit a false positive report to SurfShark for review.
