Development of Brave Browser for Smart TV Platforms (LG webOS & Beyond)

Dear Brave Software Development Team,

I am writing to formally request the consideration and development of a Brave Browser application for Smart TV platforms, specifically targeting LG’s webOS App Store (LG Content Store) and other major Smart TV ecosystems, including Samsung Tizen, Android TV / Google TV, and Amazon Fire TV.

As Brave Browser continues to distinguish itself as a privacy-first, performance-optimized web browser on desktop and mobile platforms, there is a compelling and largely untapped opportunity to extend this mission to the Smart TV market. Smart TVs are increasingly used as primary internet browsing devices in households worldwide, yet users currently lack access to a privacy-focused browsing experience on these platforms.

The case for Smart TV development is strong for several reasons:

  1. Privacy Gap: Most built-in Smart TV browsers collect significant user data and display intrusive advertisements. Brave’s core value proposition — ad-blocking, tracker protection, and user privacy — would be exceptionally well-received by the Smart TV user base.

  2. Ad-Free YouTube Experience: One of the most immediate and tangible benefits for Smart TV users would be the ability to watch YouTube through Brave Browser without being subjected to the increasing volume of advertisements. Currently, Smart TV users have no reliable, privacy-respecting way to enjoy an ad-free YouTube experience on their television. Brave’s built-in ad and tracker blocking would solve this directly, offering users a seamless, uninterrupted viewing experience that is simply unavailable through any native Smart TV YouTube app. This feature alone would likely drive significant adoption and word-of-mouth growth for Brave on Smart TV platforms.

  3. Market Opportunity: The global Smart TV market continues to grow rapidly, with LG and Samsung alone accounting for hundreds of millions of active devices. An official Brave app could capture a meaningful share of this audience.

  4. Brand Differentiation: Brave would be among the first dedicated privacy-focused browsers available on Smart TV app stores, establishing a first-mover advantage in this space.

  5. BAT & Brave Rewards Expansion: Extending the Brave Rewards ecosystem to Smart TV platforms could open new revenue streams and further grow the Brave Ads network.

I respectfully suggest that the development team evaluate the feasibility of a lightweight, remote-friendly Brave Browser experience optimized for the 10-foot UI paradigm, with intuitive D-pad and remote navigation support.

I understand that platform development requires significant engineering resources, and I appreciate the complexity involved. However, I believe this initiative aligns strongly with Brave’s long-term vision of making the internet a safer, more private experience for users across all devices.

Thank you sincerely for your time and consideration.

Respectfully,

kenshin
