Description of the issue: Brave shows gradient background when wallpaper is disabled, it should be blank / follow system theme
How can this issue be reproduced?
-
New tab page → Settings
-
Background Image → Show Background Images → OFF
-
It Defaults to Purple Gradient instead of no wallpaper / Blank
Expected result:
When wallpaper/background image is disabled:
This works properly on Android, problem is only on desktop.
Behavior should be consistent across Desktop and Android
Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave: 1.86.146
OS: Windows 11
That is the default background when no image is displayed. There are other options within the Customize new tab page menu that allow you to adjust this. So instead of choosing “no image”, instead set it to show a solid color:
Thanks for the suggestion. I did try the solid color option, but the main issue is still there.
Also, I use light mode, and there is no pure white option for the background when wallpaper is disabled. I want the new tab to be completely plain (Like Chrome) and just follow the light/dark theme (white in light mode, dark in dark mode).
On Brave Android, turning off the wallpaper actually works as expected and gives a plain background. So this seems to be a desktop-only problem.
There’s also another related issue along with this when opening a new tab, the background flashes. This happens every time and is a bit distracting. Changing to a solid color doesn’t really fix that either.
GIF: Flashing Issue

If u notice the gif, u can see that brave applies the wallpaper on top of the blank setup. Making it no wallpaper will solve Both the issues.
