Hello Brave Community,
I recently created a Brave account and experienced no traditional CAPTCHAs during the process; instead, I only encountered what appears to be Cloudflare’s Proof of Work (PoW) CAPTCHA, called Cloudflare Turnstile on the search engine. However, I have concerns about the lack of transparency regarding the specific technologies Brave employs.
Brave’s documentation discusses CAPTCHAs in general terms, but notably does not mention Cloudflare Turnstile specifically. This leads to potential confusion about what users are experiencing. Specifically:
-
They describe “Proof of Work captchas” as requiring little to no user interaction, contrasting it with traditional CAPTCHAs where users solve simple challenges, yet they fail to clarify that this is indeed Turnstile.
-
The statement about bots suggests that traditional CAPTCHAs may still be present, but my consistent experience has been solely with the PoW system.
This omission raises serious transparency concerns about the actual technology being utilized. How can we ensure that Brave is not misleading users regarding their CAPTCHA system? How do we know they were not coerced to lie under oath and say they formerly used traditional CAPTCHAs when they never did?
I’d appreciate any clarification or shared experiences from others in the community. Thank you!
