CAPTCHA ISSUES NOT WORKING AS INTENTED and WOULD NOT CLEAR, it KEPT RESETTING

I’m not sure what’s going on with Brave Captcha but it seems to be getting increasingly worse and way more problematic then it needs to be. I just attempted to make an ebay purchase, something I’ve been doing for over 25 years now, tonight, 28 Oct 2024, I was blocked with a Captcha that failed to allow me to access my purchase. I get it, you want to make sure my account does not get hacked and I appreciate that, but when Brave FAILS to allow ME TO ACCESS MY ACCOUNT, two things are possible, you, Brave either FIX IT or I, Paul Bialozor, find a New Browser. It’s as simple as that. I don’t have time for the Captcha to NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY and BLOCK ME FROM MY PURCHASE. I called ebay and gave them both barrels because I thought they were the culprits but no, it was not ebay but BRAVE was the Culprit, the owner of my browser. Who are you, Brave, to decide who can access my account? Brave is suppose to prevent such intrusion with Ad Blocking yet here you are violating the F**K out of me just the same as any ad. Seriously, knock this BS off. Block Ads and allow me to conduct my business the way I want. This is not the first time Captcha has been an issue and if I must I will start using Edge. Of course I will hate every microsecond but I’d rather use a horrible browser then one that things it knows more about me then ME. Seriously??? What is that? I do not agree with such abuse. Why am I upset? Because the Captcha is BROKEN, not functioning as NORMAL or AS IT SHOULD and prevented me from completing a purchase that I EFFING MADE. It wasn’t ebay that was wrong but Brave Browser and I feel that there’s more here then meets the EYE. BRAVE STOP VIOLATING MY SURFING RIGHTS. If you don’t want me to use your browser say so and I will delete it. I use Brave because of the many secure features it offers over any browser but I’m here to say this Captcha BS is a deal breaker. If this Captcha ever prevents me from another purchase or does not allow me to pass, I’m done with this browser and all it’s wonderful features. I would rather use a horrible Browser the horrible features, then a Browser that thinks it knows who’s accessing my account. Brave is not helping when it prevents me from conducting my affairs as I see fit. Seriously, WTF is this Captcha BS if not some form or attempt to prevent me from conducting business as I see fit? You say you want to block ads, which Brave does better then anyone, but at the risk/cost of what? Intrusion of a different level. Who are you to decide that it’s ME or a HACKER accessing my ebay account? That’s none of your damn business, I’m not using Brave for that, I’m using Brave to access the damn internet. I suggest you remember your place in the food chain Brave. It’s not your place to protect me and if there’s a way to turn that Captcha BS off do let me know because that’s EXACTLY what I will do. If I get hacked, so be it, but I will not have my Browser blocking me from conducting my affairs, I’d rather watch ADS. It took me over 20 minutes to complete my purchase because the Captcha was BROKEN. I’d clear it then it would reset. I’d clear it again and again it would reset. After 10 minutes I called ebay thinking they were behind this, but no, it wasn’t ebay but BRAVE. Seriously BRAVE, slow your roll, it’s not your job to protect EVERY EFFING ASPECT OF MY LIFE, that’s MY JOB. You stick to what you do best and continue to BLOCK ADS and leave the rest to me. WTF???

Google reCAPTCHA is designed to scrape what it can, from:

  • your Internet browser
  • your computing device
  • you

Encountering reCAPTCHA and trying Google’s game version of ‘pin the tail on the donkey,’ can result in a variety of intermittent or constant failures that include:

  • never succeeding as Google repeatedly reissues a new multi-box panel of whole . . . but usually NOT whole . . . donkeys
  • network quirks at the moment of ‘trial-by-fire’
  • your Internet browser trying to satisfy the notions of efficiency, order, and timing of the array of items sent from the online service’s webservers.

Given that Internet browsers include some settings and tools designed to frustrate intrusions from the web, and,

Given that Google, for example, wants online users to mindlessly let down such users’ guard - thus revealing much to Google (whose owners DO NOT want you to be rummaging around in their stuff) - in order for Google’s reCAPTCHA to work,

Then we are stuck with deciding what additional doors and windows might be opened, that will get Google’s reCAPTCHA to appear to be merciful . . . while walking away some of our personal info that is actually none of Google’s business.

Seems to be the conundrum.

For various sets (combinations) of Brave Browser (and Chromium) settings, reCAPTCHA may work at some websites but not other websites.

Brave, as a practice or policy if you will, takes the Chromium engine and reworks some of it, in order to reduce Google’s intrusions - during the build-up of Brave Browser.

My guess: Google does not approve, and Google’s reCAPTCHA may balk - because of some tweak in it and/or some tweak in Chromium.

How Brave Browser is developed:

Deviations from Chromium (features we disable or remove)

What is this nonsense? I don’t care how Brave works, remove the Captcha, learn to read, and read my comment again. Google any word you don’t understand, I used smaller words so you should be able to fully understand them…

There is no “Brave Captcha.”

Hi user @289wk, it looks like you might be new as well, so Welcome!
Anyway, your posts here are good and helpful, so thanks for sharing but I have a feeling that they might be falling on deaf ears :man_shrugging: :man_facepalming:

Hi Paul (@cybercapri)

It sounds like you’re experiencing a really frustrating issue, but I want to clarify a couple of things. Brave doesn’t actually control or create the CAPTCHA you’re encountering—those are typically set by the website you’re visiting (in this case, eBay) or services like Cloudflare that they use for security. Brave doesn’t directly manage those CAPTCHAs or decide when they appear. However, some settings in Brave, like the Shields feature, might cause conflicts that result in CAPTCHAs being more difficult to solve or resetting unexpectedly.

You could try a couple of things to resolve this:

  1. Temporarily lower your Shields: Click the Brave icon in the address bar and try lowering the Shields for that site to see if it helps with the CAPTCHA issue.

  2. Try in a private window: Sometimes, extensions or settings might cause interference, so testing in a private window with no extensions might show if that’s the cause.

  3. Clear cookies for eBay: Clearing cookies or site data for eBay can sometimes help if the CAPTCHA keeps resetting.

If you continue having trouble, I’d recommend reaching out to eBay support again, as they should be able to investigate any issues with their CAPTCHA system.

Hope this helps clarify where the issue might be coming from!

I can’t log into epicgames.com on Brave due to capcha. Works in Chrome, works in Firefox. Shields are down, all cookies were deleted, and [*.]epicgames.com was added to list of sites that can save third party cookies. Captcha continually tells me “Incorrect response, please refresh the page.”
