I am unable to open Instagram links in the Brave browser on my PC.

When I click Instagram links that are sent to me via WhatsApp Desktop or email, the links do not open correctly in Brave. Either nothing happens or the page fails to load as expected.

System details:

  • OS: Windows 11

  • Browser: Brave (latest version)

  • Issue occurs with links opened externally (WhatsApp / email)

What I have tried:

  • Restarting Brave

  • Copying and pasting the link directly into the address bar

  • Checking default browser settings

The issue persists.

Is this related to Brave Shields, external link handling, or Instagram-specific behavior? Any guidance on how to resolve this would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I recommend:

Never clicking on a link in an e-mail message.

Always copy the link and paste the link into a text editor window, and thereby examine the link’s entire character string.

For example, I have sent this link (https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTfnBz7CET2/?igsh=dW16b253cGc3cGd0) to my email (Gmail) from Instagram, which I had opened on my iPhone to watch the video on my PC. Then, I click this link on my PC to open it in Brave, but I get a blank page (In Brave, the link is different: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DTfnBz7CET2/). I have asked ChatGPT about this problem, but the proposed solutions did not work.

When I right-click on the longer URL address character string in your reply, above:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTfnBz7CET2/?igsh=dW16b253cGc3cGd0

the resulting menu includes selections:

  • Copy Clean Link

IF I select Copy Link and paste into a text editor window, I get the full character string:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTfnBz7CET2/?igsh=dW16b253cGc3cGd0

IF I select Copy Clean Link and paste into a text editor window, I get a cleaned up character string ← beginning from the left end of the URL address, on up to, but not including the question mark character (and trailing characters thereafter) ← question mark and all trailing characters are stripped away:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTfnBz7CET2/

In order to preserve a character string that I copied - when I paste into other applications’ windows (with the exception of using a simple text editor ← that does not attempt to convert a URL address character string into a “hyperlink”) - I will:

1st) paste the character string, and then

2nd) place an extra character at each end of the character string:

  • back tick ( ` ) character
  • single quote ( ’ ) character

For example, I have a back tick character at each end, or a single quote character at each end.

My choice of character string “bookends” in effect, depends upon my learning about, how the URL address character string will appear - be preserved - in the final application’s window.

The long URL address with back ticks applied (you will not see the back ticks):

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTfnBz7CET2/?igsh=dW16b253cGc3cGd0

The same long address with single quotes applied (you will notice the single quotes):

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTfnBz7CET2/?igsh=dW16b253cGc3cGd0

Without my “bookends” characters, in this Brave Community - Discourse Software environment, we see the following rendered by the software:

I’m having the exact same issue as of February 15th 2026.

After googling a bit, it turns out the answer was on reddit, as always: https://www.reddit.com/r/brave_browser/comments/1d2ztux/instagram_reels_not_working_in_brave_browser/

Open the “Adjust the appearance and performance on Windows” and make sure to have ticked “Animate controls and elements inside Windows”. Restart Brave and it should load properly now.
