Can I or can't I permanently remove AI from Brave? If I can't, I'm leaving

Given that a Brave Browser user wishes to steer away from Brave Leo AI and Brave Search with AI assistance . . .

Brave Leo AI

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://settings/appearanceDisable Show autocomplete suggestions in address bar

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://flags and Disable Brave AI Chat

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://settings/leo-ai and Disable:

  • Show Leo icon in the sidebar
  • Show Leo in the context menu on websites

And click the Clear Leo data button.

Also, while at brave://settings/leo-ai, scroll down to Personalization and Disable Store my conversation history

If you want to fully remove all traces of the Leo component from the browser, then you’ll have to do so via Group Policy:

Brave Search

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://settings/clearBrowserData and using the On exit tab, Enable Browsing history and click the Save button.

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to https://search.brave.com/settings and Disable

  • Answer with AI
  • Discussions
  • Google fallback mixing

And then click on the Brave Lion icon at the upper-left-corner area of the Brave Search Settings window. That will send the browser to the main Brave Search Engine webpage: https://search.brave.com

Modify that URL address to https://search.brave.com/?summary=0 This should disable the “normal” AI summaries. This trick unfortunately does not work with the summaries for “places”.

USE the Brave Search Engine’s search field - DO NOT USE the URL address field (some users call that the “search bar”) . . . for your search criteria.

BE CERTAIN, once you have entered your search criteria, to click on the Magnifying Glass icon. BECAUSE, a Brave Search AI assistant button might still appear very-nearby. So, the objective is all in the following screenshot:

  • IMHO
  • PS: Language translation/translators these days, are likely to include AI assistance
