I am using the Brave app on my iPad and have noticed a few bugs. First, I am unable to see comments or the rest of the page on YouTube videos. All that appears is the video player. Second, on some sites (eg Lonely Planet’s site) the text doesn’t appear correctly. The background is super dark on some pages and makes the text unreadable.
Please edit your Original Post (“OP”) above, in order to include:
- Brave Browser version numbers
- iPad Operating System version numbers
I am testing Perplexity.ai in order to assist some of my online searches; and, re your “dark background” issue, the following search result info may include some tip that applies:
This usually happens when Brave’s dark mode or iOS’s dark mode is forcing a dark theme onto sites that aren’t designed for it, which can make text blend into the background and look unreadable.
Quick things to try
- In Brave on iPad, open the menu (three dots), go to Settings → Appearance (or Display), and switch the theme to “Light” instead of “Dark” or “Automatic.”
- In iPad Settings → Display & Brightness, temporarily set the system Appearance to “Light” and see if Brave’s pages become readable again. Many apps follow the system setting.
- If you use any content filters or “dark mode” helpers (including iOS Smart Invert or similar), turn them off and reload the page, since they can invert colors in ways that hide text.
If it still looks wrong
- Some sites have their own dark mode toggle separate from Brave or iOS; check the site’s settings and turn that off if text is low-contrast. Many users report unreadable text when both the browser and the site try to enforce dark themes.
Re both issues, there may be a (“cosmetic?”) content filter that is a cause. Or possibly a Site-Specific Brave Shields setting that needs to be relaxed.
Either possibility might frustrate the expected, better display.
Brave team member @fanboynz will know the web compatibilty issues.

Thanks, @289wk. I’ll look into this.
Thanks, @fanboynz. Where would I find that in the app?
