Browser Guard by Malwarebytes

I am being prompted to enable the Malwarebytes Browser Guard.
Do I need this on Brave?

The answer is entirely subjective: up to you.

Do you have Malwarebytes installed but disabled? If “no”, I find it very strange that you’re being prompted to enable an extension that’s entirely optional.

Which leads to: if at one time you installed Malwarebytes, perhaps you had good reason for that decision.

Historically, I had Malwarebytes installed in my browsers. (plural: this includes Brave) In the context of the protections Brave’s “Shields” currently offers, I’d describe including Malwarebytes as part of the Department of Redundancy Department. About a month ago, on Brave’s “manage extensions” page, I toggled the status of Malwarebytes to ‘inactive’ — not uninstalled but … inactive. This is my own personal decision with no supporting data: I found Brave’s “Shields” to be sufficient, and Malwarebytes to be too busy.

Not pertaining to Brave, but in the context of developments at Firefox, I’ve also disabled (but not uninstalled) Malwarebytes in that browser.

Do you need Malwarebytes? That depends on your browsing. The decision is yours.

In the past Malwarebytes blocking was interferring with YT adblocking, not sure if its still the case. They use Easylist as a base for their Browser guard, the same as Brave.
