Brave's Android icon does not behave like the app icons for almost all other standard Android apps

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Description of the issue: I’m unable to get the Android Brave app icon to behave like the icons of almost all other standard Android apps. Via Brave’s Settings, I am only allowed to place its icon as a Home-screen widget. That is different from the behavior of the literally several hundred apps that I have installed on my Android device.

I use the Nova launcher, and if an app icon is placed as a widget on the Home screen, that icon cannot be relocated to any of the standard “App Drawers” that Nova supports. And if I don’t specify “Home page widget” for Brave, then its app icon appears nowhere. This is also different from almost all of the Android apps that exist.

I have a very specific, fixed set of icons on my Home screen, and I do not want Brave’s icon to be one of those. Instead, I want to locate Brave’s app icon in one of the Nova App Drawers like I can do with all the other hundreds of standard, normal Android apps that I have installed on my device. Why can’t Brave just create a normal app icon like every other Android app?

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Install Brave

  2. Go to Brave’s Settings

  3. Go to “Home Page widget”

Expected result: Brave should do what hundreds of other Android apps do as standard behavior and allow more than just a “Home page” widget. It does not. It forces its icon to only appear on the Home page, or else no app icon for Brave will appear anywhere.

Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.81.136 Chromium 139.0.7258.143

Mobile Device details: Nothing 2 devices, Android 14 and Android 15 (same behavior under both devices and both OS versions)
