Brave windows freeze when in background

Description of the issue:

As soon as brave is below another window, the browser window doesn’t get a repaint anymore.
This is especially annoying when using a desktop ruler.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open a browser window
  2. Browse to any website
  3. Put any window in front of the browser’s window
  4. Move the window in front of the browser’s window - it will leave traces

Expected result:

The browser window still gets repainted and the window in front doesn’t leave a trace.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Version 1.19.92 Chromium: 88.0.4324.152 (official build) unknown (64-Bit)

Hello @D.Cent

could you update your brave and see if it has the same issue and if it did not work could you go to brave://settings/system and disable hardware acceleration

if all of that did not work then what is linux dist and version?

Thank you @justsomeone1 - my distro (Manjaro Linux) didn’t provide a 1.20 package yet, so I upgraded to 1.20 by using the binary build directly - and the issue seems to be gone now.

By the way, I tried switching off hardware acceleration before and this solved the issue, too - but watching videos was terribly unsmooth after that.
