Description of the issue: Every time I click on any site to view a PDF it makes me save the file before it can be viewed. I read through the prior posts about this issue all the way back to 2019 and nothing will work. HELP!

@Hydeaway85 it’s at brave://settings/content/pdfDocuments.
Just FYI, as it’s something you may want to try in the future if you are unsure if there’s a setting, there’s a search icon you can use to search through settings for something in paritcular. So for example, go to Settings, see the search glass on the top right?
I’ll try to do some digging around here later and do some tests. I’d also like to suggest you check if it happens the same in a new browser profile, which you can do by going to the three line (hamburger) menu → more tools → add new profile.
This second profile should have most settings to default and no extensions. Make sure PDF setting is as you mention and then check if PDF files work differently.
Also, let me ask, is this happening no matter where you view PDFs or is it only from certain websites or types of content? This might make a difference as well, such as if it’s happening when opening an email attachment.
(@Mattches, I’m preemptively tagging since it’s Friday just in hopes you might have some ideas. Know if don’t get it figured out today, won’t be until next week to dive in more. Thanks)
Thank you so much for working with me. It is happening with virtually all the sites I go to. I have a health insurance agency and United Healthcare and other carrier’s sites, commission sites, tax form sites, etc. all do it.
My experience: whether or not a .pdf link opens a document in my browser or requests a destination on my computer to which to download a file depends ENTIRELY on how the .pdf link is created, not on my browser.
Here are two examples:
should open a .pdf document in a new tab in your browser.
should request a download destination on your computer.
A word of caution: a random search for sample .pdf files can result in some nasty stuff; be careful out there.
@Hydeaway85, it was suggested above that you try this in a fresh profile, which I agree with:
Please perform this test and confirm whether or not you see the same behavior when using the new profile.
As an additional test, can you try searching for and viewing the BAT Whitepaper in Brave and see if it also requires that you download it first? Should be the first result when you search:
