Briefly describe your issue:

Hello.

I need some help with my Brave Wallet on my phone and computer. I have a few questions:

  1. I’m trying to make a transaction, and it says I need “gas.” I have a lot of BAT, but it doesn’t seem to work for this fee. How do I transfer the correct cryptocurrency to pay for gas?

  2. Is there a way to sync my Brave Wallet between my mobile and desktop so they both have the same wallet?

  3. I have an older Brave Wallet where I’ve accumulated my BAT, but I’ve also heard about a Solana wallet. Do I need to switch to a Solana wallet, or can I use the one I already have?

I’m a bit lost with all this. Thank you for your help.

What Operating System and Brave version are you using? (Menu --> Help --> About Brave)

Android and Windows 11

Who is your verified custodian or self-custody? (Uphold/Gemini/bitFlyer/Solana) Brave wallet Solana

Are you in a supported region? (see here for list of supported regions) USA

@rick43221 you have a few things going on it seems, so let me try to break some things apart:

Brave Rewards and Brave Wallet do not sync across devices. If you did not restore the Wallet from one device onto the other, then these are two different wallet accounts. Having two separate is not ideal, especially when you consider gas fees and all.

Gas is the native token for the chain. If you’re receiving BAT to Solana via self custody, then you’re getting BAT (Portal) on Solana. When it’s time to move it anywhere, it needs SOL as the gas token.

Also if you’re first trying to connect your Rewards to your Wallet, you need at least $1 worth of SOL in there to fund the BAT account.

You can read the two links below which might help explain both of those:

Are you talking about actual Brave Wallet where you have the BAT? Or are you referencing to earning for places like Uphold or something?

Also, check out:

Yes the actual brave wallet where I have bat I have that from the early days before the self custody wallet was open to everyone

@rick43221 to be clear, this wouldn’t be Brave Wallet. When using the term like that, it’s referencing just the self custody. If you earned BAT in the past, then it would have had to go to some place like Uphold.

If you’re speaking many years in the past, they had it where it paid directly to the Rewards which had its own wallet where it kept what was called vBAT, but that went away in 2023 and anything a person had there is gone forever if they didn’t link to a custodial account.

Oh, to be clear, it depends. If you’re using Uphold and your country is still supported, you can keep using it. But if you’re not linked to anything then you’ll have to connect to something in order to earn. Overall the choices are Uphold for most of the world, ZebPay for India, BitFlyer for Japan, or Solana (self custody) for most of the world.

Thanks just wanted to confirm as well besides uphold the brave wallet will always need some initial gas hence the need to put down actually money or transfer crypto into the brave wallet in order to get the rewards points for using the wallet in the form of bat. Each subsequent transfer can use the amount of bat converted to sol I guess in order to keep transferring money? I wish there was a way without putting anything money down initially or sol
