Brave updates very slow

The brave browser has frequent updates, but it often takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Often the update is the only activity on my system. I can do other browser updates simultaneously and they complete in a few minutes. I don’t have similar problems with any other browser(firefox, opera). This has encouraged me to skip updates. My internet speeds are 20 to 30 mb, which should be sufficient. I do run clamxav on this system but it is still slow when I turn it of
