Brave unstable since update, freezes, takes 3 minutes to open pages, automatic update issues

Hi everybody,

I have the last version of Brave:

(Brave 1.88.134 (Build ufficiale) (a 64 bit) Chromium: 146.0.7680.153)

on Windows 10 ASUS Vivobook laptop, Graphics card NVidia Geforce RTX, since last week after an automatic update brave doesn’t work properly anymore.

There are multiple Brave Updater processes active in the task manager (normal plus 32 bit processes, several duplicates), Brave takes 2 minutes to open and load after a grey window is displayed, takes 1 minute to load every single page on the internet, tried uninstalling multiple times, deleting the huge cache (~300MB in Appdata folder), deleting the ProgramFiles folder where the Updaters were located, installing and uninstalling the beta several times, nothing, both the normal and beta don’t work and keep being corrupt.

If I hard terminate all the duplicate updaters in the Task Manager, Brave sometimes resumes working more or less normally for that particular session, but not always, if I close and reopen Brave, it starts being slow again.

I tried disabling hardware acceleration, setting DX-9, nothing changes.

I’m having problems with Firefox too (that I installed because Brave wasn’t working), I don’t know if it’s related, Microsoft Edge works fine.

If the problem is not solved I will switch to another browser, too bad since Brave is the only one that blocks annoying ads.

If you’re seeing the issue in Firefox as well then it probably isn’t a Brave specific issue. Can you try making sure you quit Brave, then open the Windows task manager and end any/all Brave related tasks running Including updater processes), then see if the browser launches normally?

Since I uninstalled Brave, Firefox now works normally.

Killing the Task Manager Brave processes doesn’t always work, no idea why, don’t you have some other suggestions for me?

Well now that you’ve already uninstalled it I would be interested to know if the issue occurs when/if you reinstall the browser.

Yes I tried uninstalling and reinstalling like 10 times. It remains corrupt.

I have the same version and the exact same issues. Also reinstalled to see if this has any effect but no succes.

Other browser (Edge) works perfectly.

When reinstalling, did you both also elect to delete your stored browsing data as well?

I updated my AMD drivers, that seems to do the trick.

Yes I deleted everything multiple times, also deleted the folders in AppData. Doesn’t work.

I will try updating my NVidia drivers too.
