How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Translate https://www.briloner.com/en/3065014-led-cct-smart-ceiling-light-oe-49-cm-42w-4500lm-chrome into English

  2. Diese moderne LED Lampe ist vielseitig einsetzbar z.B. als Wohnzimmerlampe oder Schlafzimmerleuchte. Per mitgelieferter Fernbedienung ist die Leuchte bequem vom Sofa aus anzusteuern. @stdedos the issue here is not with Brave but the website and your understanding of things. Let me try to hit a some things for you.

I initially went to the website link you provided and what I noticed is it didn’t even offer to translate. This gave me an indication that it was written to say it’s an English site. But I still pretended I needed to translate, so I did the right click → Translate to English and saw the issue that you did.

But then I scrolled up to look, and saw this. Notice how it’s claiming to be in English?

If you switch it to Deutsch then it triggers the question of whether we want to translate, because now the website is claiming to be in German.

@stdedos the long story short on that is the browser only detects that a website is in another language if that website reports it. If it’s saying everything is English, then choosing to translate will be a problem because it’s assume what’s written is actually English.

But I agree, it still would be nice if Brave Translate would still detect the text on the page and be sure to translate entirely, similar to how Chrome does. This is something to be worked on yet. There are things they are working on, but have some ways to go.

As for now, it just relies on reporting from the website only and is unable to differentiate further.

And indeed, you are right in all your counts - “it didn’t even offer to translate”, “Notice how it’s claiming to be in English?” (I … visited so many times an I forgot :sweat_smile:), and also

… but that’s mostly why I came here :sweat_smile:

To give to, whoever is doing the translation, this site as an example of translation failing. Because in Chrome it just works :blush:

PS: … and normally I wouldn’t care. But I am Printing as PDF for archiving purposes - but PDF is not as flexible as “Right Click → Translate to English
