Brave Shield Reporting Issue or Tracking From Previous Site Following Me?

Description of the issue: After visiting https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/ and going to a new site that has zero trackers or ads, Brave Shield will show two trackers are being blocked on the new site. If I reload the page, it returns to the proper 0 trackers being blocked.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): Visit https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/, then go to any other site. The trackers blocked will be incremented by 2, sometimes just 1. Reload the page, and the trackers blocked will be 2 fewer, sometimes 1 fewer.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

This is visiting https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/ (8)

This is visiting the next site (2) that has no ads or trackers.

This is after reloading the next site (0).

Expected result: There should be zero trackers or ads blocked on sites that show zero ads and use zero trackers.

Reproduces how often: Every time.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu): macOS 26, Brave 1.82.173 (Official Build) (arm64), Chromium: 140.0.7339.213

Here are the trackers being reported on the following site, that has no trackers.

Not seeing this issue on my end. Here’s a short recording – am I performing these steps incorrectly?

Ah, I see. The link should’ve been https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/ not the standard nytimes domain.

Ah that does repro the issue. Very strange – taking a look.

We’ve opened an issue for this here:

Thank you for reporting!
