Brave Browser - iOS - Release Notes: (sometimes not up-to-date)

  1. Open the Brave Browser app
  2. Go to Settings and scroll down to General > Brave Origin
About the pace of Brave Browser (iOS) updates:

Google Chrome (iOS) and Microsoft Edge (iOS), are essentially just wrappers around WebKit on iOS. There is no “Chromium iOS”.

Brave uses WebKit on iOS due to Apple’s requirements and the fact that iOS apps must undergo a review process by Apple before they can be updated on the App Store ← that would be one reason shy Brave Browser (iOS) updates are not events keeping pace with non-iOS Brave Browser versions.

Brave Browser (iOS) does not directly benefit from Chromium’s security updates. Instead, Brave Browser (iOS) relies on WebKit’s security updates, which are handled by Apple. So, if there’s a major security vulnerability in Chromium’s Blink engine ← that does not impact the Brave iOS version directly, because the rendering engine is different.

Apple frequently releases security patches for WebKit through iOS updates, and Brave is still responsible for integrating any relevant changes that relate to privacy or performance.

Brave does implement additional privacy features on top of WebKit, like ad blocking, cookie blocking, and tracking protection. So, while the iOS build doesn’t benefit from Chromium’s security fixes, Brave adds its own security layers to maintain its privacy-first stance.
