Brave news - can't stop articles from posting that switch to paid access after you have read a little

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Yes

  2. Open Brave news and open articles

  3. I have set the news sources I am interested in, and these aren’t them.

Expected result: To block/remove articles from publishers I haven’t selected and always change over to membership required to continue reading.

Brave Version( check About Brave): https://brave.com/latest/

Additional Information: NY times, La Times, Bon Appetite etc let you get started and then block the rest of the article. I don’t have the 100’s of $$ to sign up for these “come on” tricks. Waste of time which Brave is supposed to save.

I was going to say (if I understood you right) that you should be able to hide sources you don’t want with this 3 dot menu, but um…I can’t click that anymore, now the menu button just loads the article, no options.

I remember being able to selectively stop certain sites from showing up as “recommended”. Guess that button isn’t what I thought it was.

Just opened a Github on this as well, as I’m able to replicate.

Ok so it’s not me, I really was wondering if I imagined this menu since I don’t use it often enough.

Yeah, something got messed up there. Either hamburger menu indicator needs removed or it should actually open a hamburger/context menu. It certainly shouldn’t behave that way.

@BryanB4 I do have a feeling we kind of sidetracked from your report. Just so you know, if you follow any “channels” then that would be huge lists of sources as compiled by Brave. You can’t unfollow the individual ones from there, at least not unless things changed.

What I recommend you do is unfollow every single “channel” and only follow the particular sources you want.

To be clear, channels would things like below:

By default, they have Top Sources channel enabled. So you would want to remove that.

I know I have not “followed” any of the “nope don’t want that one either” but I can’t say for sure if I went through all of the other other choices. Thank you for pointing those out and I will go through them as well. (UGH)

Thanks for filing @Saoiray – have pinged the devs on this.
