It is indeed
Ok, last thing I upload unless you ask me to upload more stuff.
Another beachball, and this time I recorded a short video to show you how the cursor of the tab to the left keeps blinking.
Can’t upload videos as I’m a new user, so here you have a link to the video.
@migsyboy,
To confirm, you’re saying that you launched the browser with a brand new profile with no data on it (and made sure you did not have your other profile window open) and no tabs open and the browser crashed in the same way?
Hi.
I created a new profile and started using it.
The old profile had no windows opened, but I am not sure what you mean with ‘the other profile window opened’ sorry.
I selected the new profile and started opening windows and tabs.
I just wanted to make sure that the only Brave window open was the one that was using the fresh profile with no data on it — can you please share an image of the browser task manager (if you can)? To ensure that the browser by itself is freezing, can you please try the following:
- Please open the macOS
Terminalapp - Type in the following command
open -a "Brave Browser.app" -n --args --profile-directory="newprofiletest"and hit enter - When the browser window appears, please open the browser task manager and take a screenshot of it as you did before
- Observe whether or not the browser crashes under these conditions
If it does, please share the screenshot of the browser task manager here as you did before.
Thank you
I can actually confirm 100% that all windows opened were with the new profile, not the old one.
Would you mind performing the test above as well anyway? Just for my sanity lol. Trying to get to the bottom of why you’re seeing this behavior and hoping its not more widespread.
I really appreciate it.
It is widespread as you can see in the comments above.
I honestly am not sure I can spend more time running these tests, as I really have to do my own work.
I have hopefully provided lots of information and screenshots.
All the windows I was using today were under the brand new profile. No window from the old profile was used.
But please, do tell me if this issue is going to get looked at, because I need a browser that doesn’t freeze for my work. I am hoping that this can get resolved so I can continue using Brave (I love the content filtering) but I’ll have to use a different browser if it won’t.
Thanks!
Hi @Mattches sorry to bother you. I just want to know if this issue is going to get looked at (no worries if it doesn’t!), so if it is not, I’ll just move on and start using a different browser. I need a browser for my work that doesn’t freeze.
Thanks!
+1
Brave is completely unusable in full-screen mode now from past few weeks
Well, very sorry to hear that, but this proves that this issue is actually widespread.
I have put a lot of time trying to diagnose what the issue might be (and shared a lot of info), but I am sure many other people just moved on to a different browser after seeing the second beachball…
@migsyboy,
I have informed the team of your issue — we’ve got a lot on our plate right now with the release of Leo (amongst other things) so apologies for the long wait time. I personally am not clear on why this is happening. One last test to try if you can would be to try downloading the Beta build and tell me if you get the same crash?
@RollingHash you are experiencing a different issue — is it showing a black screen? If so, it looks like this is a known issue:
I’ve added your report to the issue for our developers to review
If this better describes your issue:
Then ensure you’re using the latest build of the browser, as a fix for this one has already been submitted.
Thanks so much @Mattches, I really appreciate you guys are going to look into this issue.
I really like Brave and would love to keep using it.
Yesterday I used Chrome (I needed some stability) and actually I got the beachball once (only once though). Unfortunately the Task Manager was closed so couldn’t take a screenshot, but the processes weren’t looking to bad.
I was using it in the same way as I was using Brave:
- All browser windows in fullscreen (some even splitting the screen)
- Using an external monitor via HDMI through a usbc hub.
Today I went back to Brave, and what I am going to try this time is not use any Brave window in full screen (as some user said here before). I will report later whether I get beachballs or not.
Thanks.
Had a user have Laggy response issues on MacOS. Turning on HW Acceleration helped out here.
https://old.reddit.com/r/brave_browser/comments/17m0ft1/slow_and_laggy_after_os_update/
Thanks, but as I already mentioned, I am already using HW acceleration.
It is actually activated by default, right? Why would anybody deactivate it?
Regards.
Hey @Mattches, been working all day with Brave and roughly the same number of tabs as usual, extensions enabled and external monitor, and never got a beachball.
The only difference? I am not using fullscreen mode on any of the windows.
Seems like @robdupre might be onto something when he said that when he runs “brave in non full screen mode, it doesnt seem to freeze.”
Just FYI, hopefully this helps.
Cheers.
@migsyboy,
Thank you for the updates. I’ll be opening an issue for this shortly so that your issue doesn’t get lost in the shuffle but it does seem like it is related to full screen. Additionally, it may be a Chromium based issue if you were seeing the same behavior in Chrome.
This is still happening to me intermittently. I don’t think its a Brave or Chromium issue, although the symptoms seem to only effect the browser (in my experience).
I have a second screen, and with activity monitor open and brave open full screen. I will often encounter Control Centre (not responding).
Tends to happen with video applications (calls, youtube) and sometimes with my companies webUI. As posted before the reddit links closely represents what I am seeing:
Edit: I just updated to OSX 14.1 and I still see control centre (not Responding) but I also see Brave Browser (not Responding) also.
In my case, since I stopped using Brave in full screen mode I have not seen the beachball even once. I am convinced now it’s the full screen mode.
