Welp, not sure if this will be helpful, but moving the entire Default folder to either Nightly or Beta causes the same issue (immediate crash on starting the browser, leaving only the icon in the system tray)
@Balthos,
Thank you for the update. So it seems that something contained within the browser profile you’re using/the one you moved over that is causing the crash. Were you able to reverse/undo the change in order to continue using Nightly?
No worries, hopefully they get back to us soon. Would love to continue using my browser, it’s a bit of a pain having all of my saved links basically be lost at the moment on my desktop. I thought it may be worth mentioning, I have a MacBook Pro 2019 which I use Brave on as well that operates with the same profile I use on my Windows 10 desktop. That browser is still functioning fine, so I’m not sure if my issue has any relation to the user profile, or if this problem is only impacting Windows.
@Mattches Have you heard anything from the devs?
@basednii,
Sorry for the long wait time here. Can you please try a couple things for me here?

The crash report you left initially has expired — is there any way you can attempt to get any of the more recent crash IDs for us? I know the browser only stays open a second or two but if you could get a hold of those it would be helpful

Can you please try launching the browser in a new profile? You can do this without needing to open the browser. Simply:
- Create a folder on your desktop (maybe call it “test” or something)
- Right-click on the Brave shortcut, click
Propertiesand in theTargetfield - After the quotes enter
--user-data-dir=C:\Users\[your user name]\Desktop\Test. The fullTargetpath should now look something like what’s shown below
"C:\Program Files (x86)\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application\brave.exe" --user-data-dir=C:\Users\[your user name]\Desktop\Test
Once you’ve made the above changes to the shortcut, hit OK and use that same shortcut to launch Brave.
Hi @Mattches,
No worries, life gets busy I understand. I’ve reuploaded a crash report, screenshot below has the ID.

As for trying a new profile, by directing the shortcut to the test folder I was able to successfully open and use Brave, albeit without my settings, bookmarks & other things (as expected of course). Hopefully this information helps the team figure out what might be the issue. Maybe the profile problem is only impacting Windows machines.
@basednii,
Thank you for the information — looking more into this now.
@basednii,
Can you please launch the browser in the new profile, go to brave://flags/#brave-news and ensure that this value is set to Default?
Thank you
I tried this- on the new profile, it’s set to Default, without issues. On the old profile, still crashing immediately on load- is also set to Default, but it isn’t open long enough for me to change the settings.
@Balthos,
Are you still able to get any of your newer crash reports in the browser? If so can you please share them here?
Hi @Mattches, I’ve done this and confirmed the flag is set to Default.
