Brave crashes when I close Last Tab!

Hi guys,

These days I’m facing with an issue, which is related with option: Close window when closing last tab.

First it doesn’t work! Disabled it, doesn’t have effect on last tab!
Secondly, everytime I try to close Brave via last Tab, it creates a DMP file in location: C:\Users.…\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Crashpad\reports. This causes the browser to crash upon start!

My system:
Brave Browser Version 1.68.131 Chromium: 127.0.6533.73 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Windows 11 Pro Version 23H2, OS build 22631.3880

Just an update:
This issue occurs only with Updated horizontal tabs design=Disabled! With button-style tabs no problem appears!

My Brave has recently been showing that it didn’t shutdown properly and showing a popup notification asking if I want to restore tabs. Thanks to the details provided in this thread, I enabled “Updated horizontal tabs design” and the error message is no longer showing when I start my browser. Please revert whatever change from the past few weeks that caused this, as the horizontal tabs are distracting/ugly and I don’t want to use them.

My system:
Version 1.68.134 Chromium: 127.0.6533.88 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

So it’s forcing us to use that disgusting new floating tabs, eh? That’s a new low.

It’s also possible (for me at least) to crash it 100% of the time not on the last tab BUT on the last tab of a set, for example:

1/ Have Brave open with any number of tabs (from 2 to 30 tested).
2/ Open a Youtube link, doesn’t have to be playing at any point.
3/ Drag this tab so it breaks from the other tabs.
4/ Close the solo tab and both instances crash completely.

This is a recent issue as I’ve been used to peeling off a playing tab to either resize it or move it around (or onto another monitor or something) for the longest time with Brave and never once has this happened until the last month.

This happens to me too since last update.
I also have the Updated horizontal tabs design=Disabled!

Steps:

  • open multiple windows, some of which using different profiles, each having multiple tabs
  • close all and then the last tab in one window.

Expected: Only that one window closees.
Actual: All windows close.
