First and foremost, the Incognito mode on desktop is very hard to see with the purple, it’s hard to see which tab is active and not only that, but the text on inactive tabs looks like some white with a shade of purple that makes it also hard to see what is written. If it was dark gray like Chrome, it would be much easier to see.
What’s worse is that even if you apply a custom theme from Chrome Web Store, the theme does not affect Incognito mode. If it did, that would not be an issue. Even Vivaldi allows you to create custom themes, even different ones for Normal and Incognito mode.
This is also a problem on mobile where the dark purple is just painful to look at. Why does it have to be purple and not gray? Who thought this was a good idea or… even “classy”? It’s horrible, at least allow people to disable it.
Second, the orange on the main theme, especially visible in settings and other aspects of the UI doesn’t look good if you use the Light theme on both desktop and mobile. Orange just doesn’t blend well with white. Which is why most pieces of software have elected that some shades of blue go better with white background.
Same is with the purple on white background too. It just looks hard to see, hard to look at and in a metaphorical way - suffocating.
I get that Brave has its own theme - orange and purple and it is its trademark, but frankly speaking, it’s not a good combination. I think Brave’s logo for the Beta version of the browser looks the best, if those color combinations are used as an inspiration for the whole color scheme, it would look much more fresh, it gives it a “minty fresh” look that I personally associate with the sky, speed, something lightweight.
I’m not here saying “change the colors, because I, a random nobody has demanded it” and then stomp my foot in annoyance and frustration, just sharing my personal opinion on Brave’s colors and how they are connected with usability as I’ve used the browser for several years and I remember when Icognito mode wasn’t dark purple, but was dark gray instead, and it was much better.
I really like Brave’s built-in content blocking capabilities and for this I don’t think there is a better browser on both desktop and mobile right now, but there are some things that are just bad about the browser and this is one of them. I use Incognito on a daily basis and every day I’m reminded how bad it looks and I occasionally search for a Brave alternative, but unfortunately I never seem to find a good one.
So I ask politely, please, look into this and find some sort of solution, at least add an option so people can change those colors on their own, it doesn’t have to be forced for everyone, because I’m sure there are some people that like it as it is or others who just don’t mind it at all.
