Brave browser wont start after update fedora 39

Description of the issue:

Brave browser wont start after updating fedora 39. I’ve seen a few similar posts about this and fixes seem to be inconsistent so I’d like to post what I think the problem I’m experiencing is and the solution. This issue seems to be occurring for me as I am using on a laptop and frequently forget to shut down and just close the lid. I will sometimes go a week or more without using my laptop so I’m not sure if the issue is that my laptop is running out of battery while brave has applied singleton lock, or if the issue is that the lock is applied, and before i start up brave again I have updated fedora or brave and its getting stuck in locked mode. When i run brave from the command line using “brave-browser” it came up with an error stating “The profile appears to be in use by another Brave process (3784) on another computer” so after looking into this I was able to fix this by going into /home/[user]/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser and deleting SingletonLock.

The result of this was that brave started normally.

I’m not sure if this helps everyone with the brave not starting issue but for my particular issue I think this is a result of either a laptop going into hibernation for too so that brave doesn’t recognise its instance anymore, or it could be that in updating fedora, brave is not recognising the name of the device that opened the instance. So I think this is something the dev team can look into

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Turn on pc from hibernation
  2. Run sudo dnf update
  3. Attempt to run brave-browser

Expected result:
Brave starts normally

Brave Version( check About Brave):
