Brave browser audio stops after tab switching on Windows

Hi everyone,
I’ve been having a persistent audio issue with Brave on Windows that started in the last few days and I’m looking for a fix.

Audio in Brave works briefly when I first open the browser or right after restarting Windows audio services, but it stops as soon as I switch tabs, pause and resume a video, or leave a tab idle and come back. When this happens, Brave may still appear in the Windows volume mixer with volume up and not muted, but there is no sound output at all. The issue affects all web audio in Brave, including YouTube and Spotify Web.

At the same time, other applications like Spotify desktop and Telegram continue to play audio normally, so the speakers and system audio are clearly working. This is repeatable and not random.

I do not use Bluetooth audio devices.

So far I have tried various Brave settings (permissions, hardware acceleration, tab sleeping, extensions), restarting Brave completely, restarting Windows Audio and Audio Endpoint Builder services, checking Windows sound settings and exclusive mode, and other basic troubleshooting steps. None of these provide a permanent fix.

Has anyone encountered this issue or found a reliable solution? Any help would be appreciated.

This might be an extension issue if you have any installed. Can you tell me what Brave version you’re using at this time?

Then, can you please try opening a Guest profile window (Menu --> More tools --> Guest profile), close your original profile window, then visit youtube using the guest profile and test to see if the issue is present there?
