Brave Beta “can’t open file” (downloaded apps and files) on Android

Description of the issue:

When downloading any apk or any file type from the Brave Browser I get an error saying “Can’t open file” in the downloads. This is with all file types. They open just fine using a file explorer and when downloaded from Google Chrome they open without any problems.

I have cleared cache and data in downloads, download manager, Brave-Beta. All the permissions are granted.

I understand that I am running the beta version, but if I remember correctly it happened on the RC too.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

1)Download any file type or apk in Brave Beta Browser.

  1. Then open the download and click on a file.

Same behavior on Android 5.02 on my tablet.

Issue occurring on Brave 1.5.7 running on a Pixel 3 with Android 10, as well.

Wish I could find a resolution or have the @admins team look into it. I wonder if it might have something to do with a 3rd party app or not.

I’ve also updated to 1.5.100 and the issue is still there.
