Brave AI Assistant

Hello! I really wanted to point out some small errors with the new AI Brave Assistant. It said every month is “effectively” white history month which is not true. I also don’t learn about white people in my past school. That is why I am homeschooled to learn about other places like Europe, Asia, and middle east. Can you please fix this somehow? There are also many other liberal responses Brave’s new AI says. Such as but not limited to saying Biden is a better president, saying Vikings and Native Americans are not barbarians and it is racist to say it is, etc.

The Brave AI Summary that appears on top of search results really needs improvement.

I know that it would be said against your example that the “AI overview” only said it that way because that’s how it was presented in the sources (and that you can click on the icon next to the specific line for its source).

The criticism is that Brave’s AI Overview basically acts very much as a summarizer of few relevant web pages for your query. It doesn’t try to cross-check facts, try to maintain opinion neutrality etc. It just presents the information it sees pretty much as is, which oftentimes comes out to be outdated, inaccurate, highly biased. For example, many times you would find the source of something it said to be reddit posts, which honestly are oftentimes opinions rather than facts.

That’s why I have to use Google’s AI Overview (which is much better) sometimes, even if I use brave browser and brave search on default. But that doesn’t mean I have lost hope in brave. I wish they improve it soon and make it more reliable.

Yes. I hope it gets updated soon.

I for one am not exactly a fan of AI assistants because of how it has been used over the past…six months or so? I do think that if they’re going to have AI assistant, the least they could have it do is explain things to you in a simpler way but give you the links to the sources so you can still look through for yourself - kinda like Google’s does - while still trying to make sure it doesn’t communicate the wrong information as AI is often known to do.

If it helps, to answer your question that you searched up in the browser, it’s probably because the majority of history was written by white peeps from Europe that went out and colonised…well, basically the whole damn planet. History has generally been Eurocentric likely since the days of the Roman Empire (which had holdings of all of what are now Italy, Spain, Portugal, France; as well as some holdings over Turkïye, Romania, Egypt, England, Germany, and possibly even a small portion of what is modern-day Ukraine). I guess in short it’s because white people have “been there, done that” to the point where it really doesn’t matter all that much because who doesn’t know what that one totally-average-height Corsican guy did? Meanwhile other cultures don’t as often get to tell their stories and history. At least that’s my guess.
