Description of the issue:

Everytime I start the Brave Browser App on my Android phone, it crashes. This happens since the version 1.82.157. The last version this didn’t happen was 1.81.137

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Updating Brave Browser via Appstore F-Droid or directly installing APK from 1.81.137 to 1.82.157 or higher

  2. Starting the App

  3. App is crashing everytime (reload of phone doesn’t matter)

Expected result:

App starting without crashing

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Brave Private Web Browser 1.82.157 arm64-v8a or higher

Mobile Device details

Oneplus 7 pro Android 15 LineageOS 22.2

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately it is. Any version since 1.82 crashes, even the nightly or beta of 1.83. Since the browser isn’t starting, I cannot open brave://crashes to get the crash report.

When I check the servers, the starting app is trying to reach, I recognize IP addresses like for example 35.83.124.124. This seems to be an address ot Amazon Webhosting Service AWS. Maybe the crashes have something to do with these connections and the configuration of my android phone is blocking this for some reason I don’t know.

@woopie99 thanks a bunch for the follow up. I believe what your experiencing is tied to a known issue that’s currently being addressed by the team.

Can you confirm, are you experiencing the crash on the stable version as well, or only on Nightly/Beta?

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I can confirm that I’m experiencing the crash on the stable version as well, the latest was 1.82.172.

Unfortunately I can’t because the browser doesn’t launch at all. Is there a logfile on the phone as well? Maybe you could give me a hint where to look for it.

Mine crashed after the recent update 03 October. Cant get into browser to get crashlog since the app immediately close, but the mi report gave this after force close everytime

Fixed for me.

Having tab more than 99 is the cause. In the new version it crash because it cant handle it.

My fix:

there is 1 sec delay before forced close, so i pair up my keyboard Bluetooth and spam ctrl + w to close it(ctrl shift w , didn’t work)took 20 minutes to clear all, and it work again

I’m having the same issue in Beta and normal window. It’s working fine in private window.

Similar is happening for me when I start Brave on laptop since this weekend.

Description of the issue:
Brave opens for 1-2 seconds then crashes.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary):
1. Launch Brave Browser**
2.** App crashes in 1-2 seconds**
3.** After 3 to 4 attempts, Brave will usually stay open and function as normal until closing application.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
App crashes

Expected Result:
App stays open on first attempt

Reproduces how often:
Every time I launch since this weekend.

Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Brave release - v1.83.112

Reproducible on current live release (yes/no):
