Anylist extension non-responsive on Brave Desktop

AnyList Recipe Import 3.0 extension recently stopped responding in Brave on Windows 11

Description of the issue:

The AnyList Recipe Import browser extension previously worked normally for me in Brave on Windows 11. Recently, clicking the AnyList extension icon while viewing a recipe page produces no response.

The same AnyList 3.0 extension successfully imports the exact same recipe page in Microsoft Edge on the same PC.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Install AnyList Recipe Import 3.0 from the Chrome Web Store using AnyList’s official Chrome-extension link.

  2. Open a supported recipe webpage in Brave.

  3. Click the AnyList Recipe Import toolbar icon.

  4. Nothing happens.

Actual Result:

The AnyList toolbar icon is non-responsive. No import window appears and the recipe is not imported.

I have reproduced this consistently.

Expected Result:

Clicking the AnyList Recipe Import icon should import the recipe into AnyList, as it does in Microsoft Edge.

Reproduces how often:

Every attempt.

Operating System and Brave Version:

Windows 11

Brave 1.93.138 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Chromium 151.0.7922.173

AnyList Recipe Import extension version 3.0

Additional Information:

I have already performed the following troubleshooting:

  • Tested with Brave Shields enabled and disabled — no difference.

  • Tested in my normal Brave profile — fails.

  • Created a completely new Brave profile with no other extensions installed, installed only AnyList 3.0, and tested again — fails.

  • Removed and reinstalled AnyList 3.0 using AnyList’s official Chrome-extension link — fails.

  • No useful extension errors are reported, including after enabling “Collect errors.”

  • Installed the same AnyList Recipe Import 3.0 Chrome extension in a new Microsoft Edge test profile on the same Windows PC.

  • AnyList 3.0 successfully imports the exact same recipe page in Edge.

  • The Edge test profile was running Chromium 151.0.7922.76 when tested.

  • My normal Edge installation also has the older AnyList 1.2.2 extension, which works.

  • The AnyList 3.0 extension folder on my PC dates to July 28, 2026, and I believe I successfully imported recipes in Brave after that date. This appears to be a relatively recent regression rather than something that has never worked in Brave.

  • AnyList support reviewed these results and agreed that this appears likely to be Brave-specific. They suggested reinstalling the extension; when that did not resolve the issue, they recommended reporting the problem to Brave.

Because the failure also occurs in a completely clean Brave profile, while the identical AnyList 3.0 extension and recipe work in Edge on the same PC, this appears to be a Brave-specific extension compatibility regression.

I am happy to provide additional diagnostic information if there is a specific log or test that would help identify the regression.

Sounds like Brave Browser+extension and AnyList account > getting along with each other < may be a problem.

Maybe worth a read:

Also, monitoring Developer Tools > Network window when visiting AnyList site, a) with, or b) without, extension enabled/installed.

Thanks, I will check that out

Update / Resolution

I was not able to identify the exact corrupted setting/state in my original Brave profile, but the issue was ultimately isolated to that profile rather than Brave generally or AnyList itself.

What I confirmed:

  • AnyList Recipe Import 3.0 worked in Microsoft Edge.

  • It also worked in a completely fresh Brave profile.

  • It continued to fail in my original Brave profile even after:

    • disabling Shields,

    • disabling all other extensions,

    • clearing AnyList cookies/site data,

    • uninstalling/reinstalling AnyList,

    • and using Brave’s Reset settings function.

  • A network log from the failing profile showed no new AnyList network request when the extension icon was clicked, suggesting the failure occurred before the extension reached the network stage.

I eventually migrated to a new Brave profile, re-created the few settings I wanted, and installed my extensions fresh. AnyList Recipe Import is now working normally.

So the practical resolution was replacement of the old Brave profile. The precise underlying profile corruption or stale state remains unknown.

Thanks to those who offered troubleshooting suggestions.

Yeah great detective work here @bencro99. Curious as to what exactly was causing the issue but I’m glad it’s resolved either way.
