Hi Brave team,
I’d like to request a feature related to how Brave handles multiple windows of the same profile when using desktop environments with virtual desktops (e.g. KDE on Linux).
The current behavior
-
When I have Brave (Default profile) open on Desktop 1, and then switch to Desktop 2 and try to launch Brave again with the same profile, Brave does not create a new window on Desktop 2.
-
Instead, it jumps me back to the existing Brave window on Desktop 1.
Why this is an issue
-
This behavior breaks the workflow for users who rely on virtual desktops/activities to organize tasks (e.g. coding on one desktop, research on another, communication on a third).
-
Other applications (including some browsers) respect the virtual desktop separation and allow me to open independent windows on whichever desktop I’m currently working in.
-
Brave’s current behavior forces me to manually move windows between desktops, which interrupts the flow.
Requested feature
Please add an option/flag/setting to allow Brave to open a new window of the same profile on the current desktop, without redirecting to the already-running instance.
Benefits
-
Improves usability for Linux/KDE and other multi-desktop users.
-
Aligns Brave with expected desktop environment behavior.
-
Makes Brave friendlier for power users and developers who rely heavily on virtual desktops.
Environment
-
OS: Fedora KDE 42
-
Brave: Brave 1.82.170 (Official Build) (64-bit), Chromium: 140.0.7339.186
-
Desktop environment: KDE Plasma
