I played https://anikai.to/watch/dr-stone-science-future-part-3-wrw18#ep=1 got no popups from the video (server 1 and 2), which option is causing the popups?
It covers the full page, not the video. After one or two clicks on some elements, the ads get activated most of the time, at least for me, and I’ve seen other people also complain about it.
For example, you click on a show element card, but it opens a pop-up in another tab.
I guess if you just try clicking random elements on the website, you’ll be able to see the ads open in another tab.
This is wrong, I can confirm a popup ad DOES appear if you tap around the site. Do NOT load a video, just explore it, use it. Within a few minutes, a popup ad WILL appear and redirect you to another site.
(Notice Brave says I have 3 tabs open, I started with only 1 tab.)
I suspect because it loads random sites and doesn’t act like a popup “ad”, it might be attempting to hijack session tokens (or likely just trying to track cookies across sites). This really does need to be looked into as I can clearly confirm it. My screenshot here was after selecting to look at TV shows instead of movies, and that site in my screenshot is NOT the site @thecs is talking about, but rather it’s the popup they are referring to. (This is backed up by the fact that @thecs video even shows that very prompt that it’s trying to track across sites.)
Please look into this further, this user is not lying and the issue was verified by me within 2 minutes.
EDIT: Since communication breakdowns occur often here, let me reiterate what happened to me, and why it proves @thecs is telling you the truth:
I opened the site they listed: 123cine.to, and while there, eventually it popped up another site with the domain hianime.ws which was NOT the site I was on, it was an popup to another site.
It appears to be event based, just sitting on the site doesn’t trigger it, but tapping the page does (you can even tap a blank part of the page that is NOT a link, and it might trigger it, so it’s tap/click events itself).
This is becoming more increasingly common, attempting to track cookies by opening a new tab that simply goes to another domain of their choosing, never actually loads an ad, it’s just trying to harvest your cookie to know if you use any other service by loading the site.
Again, their attached video even says that this happened.
I always do that before verifying a users concern. Can you at least state if you actually did something first before we go off and just do something again?
@Mattches I think we need additional assistance here, we got me and this user who can absolutely verify there is something going on and seems tap/click event based, and it requires no video to load, just clicking around the site will trigger it, and we are having a communications breakdown with fanboynz again.
Could this be part of the reason? Here’s the official site (https://animekai.pw/), and it states this:
"Recently, some fake websites have been popping up, pretending to be AnimeKai with similar domain names. Their goal is to steal our users for various purposes like personal information, ads, and more.
To make sure you always access the real AnimeKai, please bookmark this page. It’s your guide to finding us, the real AnimeKai."
I’m surprised though, I wonder why it’s bypassing Brave in a way where you end up still going to other websites like that by clicking on something on the site…it’s strange though Brave does show it’s blocked things. You might even want to set the setting to aggressively block ads and trackers. It’s happening to me too but so far since using this page then linking over to the site through this page, I haven’t run into the issue yet so far.
The website we’ve been going to might be one of the fake sites that animekai.pw just explained about.
