Add “Copy Text” option to the Long-Press Link Menu on iOS

Description:

When long-pressing a hyperlink in Brave for iOS, the context menu currently provides options such as:

  • Open in New Private Tab
  • Copy Clean Link
  • Share Link

However, there is no way to copy only the visible text of the hyperlink.

For example:

Visible text:
A POET

Link:

https://rottentomatoes.com/m/a_poet

Currently, selecting Copy Link copies the URL instead of the displayed text.

Feature Request

Please add a “Copy Text” option to the long-press context menu that copies only the visible hyperlink text.

Example:

Benefits

  • Makes copying article titles, movie names, book names, and other link labels much faster.
  • Matches what many users expect when interacting with hyperlink text.
  • Eliminates the need to open the page or manually select text.
  • Improves productivity for research, note-taking, and sharing.

This would be a small UI addition with a meaningful usability improvement, especially for users who frequently collect titles rather than URLs.

Reply???

@justprincehere not a ton to say here, unfortunately. This would in fact be a feature request but only for iOS. On Android, there is a Copy link text button in the context menu:

Additionally this appears to be an OS level issue, not an app issue. At least for me, if perform the same action in any browser (or app, really), there is no Copy link text option in the iOS context menu.

@justprincehere

I tap the Brave Browser (iOS) URL address field, and then, the URL address is highlighted (select all in effect)

Next, tap that and a simple pop-up displays - in which I choose Copy

@289wk user is referring to copying link text, not the text of the URL in the address bar.

That makes sense. I think the distinction between copying the link text and copying the URL is important here. Having a dedicated “Copy Link Text” option in the long-press menu on iOS would be a convenient addition, especially when you want the visible text of a link without opening it or manually selecting it. Hopefully this can be considered as a future iOS feature.

This is something we want to support in the future. Currently WebKit does not expose a way to obtain this info (along with disassociating links & image urls for instance). No timeline yet but on our radar

Thanks for the clarification, Kyle. That makes sense. It’s good to know this is already on the radar for the future. Hopefully WebKit exposes the needed information at some point so Brave can support a dedicated “Copy Link Text” option on iOS.
