Ability to set Vertical Tab side bar width uniquely per window

When adjusting the width of the tab sidebar, it changes across all my browser instances. This is disruptive and inconvenient. some of my windows don’t need as wide of a side bar as other windows, and having one window change all my windows is very unintuitive, and is causing me to pick a middle size that is inconvenient for ALL my windows…

For instance some windows i may want to collapse it down to just the icons, but for other windows i may have a lot of wiki links open and want a much wider view.

Please allow me to select the width of my tab panel independently in each window.

btw: love the side tabs feature!!!:heart::heart: THANK YOU BRAVE!!!

Adding my vote, sounds good…

Might I ask though have you ever tried using multiple profiles? You’re able to make adjustments per Profile in this way.

Also, Thanks for sharing this, it reminded me I had an idea saved in my Drafts for a few days, and just posted it now if you wanted to take a look here:

that’s kind of interesting, but it doesn’t solve my problem really, a new profile will have to have new bookmarks, saved passwords, and history. I may need to change the width of a bar for any given reason, and i regularly many windows daily. Right now i have 8 windows. each with maybe 5-20 different tabs. each needs a different side bar, or could need a different width sidebar if it was possible.

Thanks for the profile tip tho! it’s something i was not previously aware of!

also Thanks for your vote!!!:heart:

I figured it wouldn’t be the permanent fix but an interesting alternative.

For further ideas, last year I setup multiple profiles for different things and put them on seperate Desktops (maybe not ALL open at once, depending on need at the time). A BIT of a hassle to begin with, especially all the minor settings changes, beyond bookmarks, but, an example of my setup:

  1. Main (Default Profile with everything, common browsing)
  2. Finances (Banks, Credit Cards)
  3. Health (Mayo Clinic, WebMD)
  4. Shop (Amazon, etc.)
  5. Entertainment (Streaming)
  6. Gaming (Steam, GOG, etc.)
  7. Google (only, no access to Google in other profiles / Not allowed to save data on your device / Don’t allow to save data, etc.)
    etc.

Helpful to keep something seperate and have quicker access for certain tasks.

You can achieve this by selecting to have the panel expand independently per window. It’s not perfect for your needs though: when you open a panel it will be the size that you most recently set any panel to.

Search for “tabs” in Settings:

You can also add a keyboard shortcut to open and close the panel:

Go to brave://settings/system/shortcuts, search for “vertical”
