Youtube minimizing issue

When viewing YouTube in full-screen horizontal mode in the Android Brave bowser, minimizing the browser without pausing the video continues playing it in a small window, which is normal. However, when attempting to return from the small window back to the browser by tapping the square in the center of the small window, the browser opens with the YouTube page, but the video now appears in vertical mode, centered on a black background. When attempting to tap the two opposite arrows in the lower right corner of the screen to return to the regular, non-full-screen mode, nothing happens. The video plays and controls normally, but exiting this mode is impossible. The only way to do this is to press the Android back button, but this closes the video and reopens the YouTube home page. However, that’s not the whole problem: after relaunching the video, it’s impossible to switch to full-screen mode. The video switches to horizontal mode, but the browser address bar remains at the top, and it’s no longer possible to return to vertical mode. After this, only restarting the browser will help to restore normal operation.

Brave Version : 1.92.144

Mobile Device details : Xiaomi 11T Android 13, MIUI 14.0.6

It was fixed in Release v1.93.127 (Chromium 151.0.7922.47) (download on github). You have to wait for a while till it’s available on Google Play store.

To fix fullscreen mode, you only need to close all running youtube tabs (having thumbnails). After that, new and “inactive” youtube tabs (tabs you opened in background but haven’t touched yet) work fine.

Also fixed in Beta & Nightly versions. You can install them alongside the Release version.

Thank you mel4 just installed the latest github released 1.93.129 version, and indeed the problem with minimizing youtube is solved, but I noticed the two other problems.

  1. When minimized, in small window the pause button did not work at all.
  2. At the first minimize procedure there is a black stripe at the bottom of small window, as well as left and right sides. Bottom stripe is wider than left and right ones. After returning to normal window, the same black stripe is there in between playing video and the name of that video underneath it. But once playing video touched and moved up and down (without going to full screen mode), that black stripe is disappearing and when again go to full screen and minimize, black stripes also disappear from small window.

I don’t see the black strip bug on my end.
Yes, the little pause button does not work most of the times. It’s working quite consistently in Beta v1.93.121.

Thank you mel4 for very quick answers and deep diving in my issue.

Will try the Beta on my side little later and let you know if pause button work on my phone.

Meanwhile tried to consistently replicate the black strip/line issue.

So the steps on my phone are the following.

  1. Play any youtube video and go to horizontal full screen mode.
  2. In horizontal full screen mode Swipe from bottom to top to open the list of following videos overlay. Please note that swipe from bottom to top is in horizontal mode and it works after video scrollbar and control buttons are hided.
  3. Once swipe is done and next video list is appearing at the bottom of screen, minimize the Brave (by pushing android middle button) without closing the next videos list overlay.

After above steps you should see the black bottom strip/line.

Also I noticed that when overlay with next videos list is open in horizontal full screen mode, the whole video screen jumps little bit up by the swipe direction, and even if list is closed, it not return to default position making the black line at the buttom of screen. And once Brave is minimized this black line keeped and go to buttom of small window.

Same also happen when video is moved horizontaly when try to zoom and unzoom screen (Of course screen is not zoomed but position is shifted and make those vertical and horizontal side black strips/ lines.

On my side problem replicates even easier, because android control buttons are by default hidden, and to activate them, I need to swipe the screen, moving video in process of swipe in both horizontal and vertical directions randomly.

Hope this helps to replicate the issue.

P.S while writing this post find one more issue. The back and forward buttons in minimized small window work only one time and after switching clip just go to disabled and grayed out state.

To be clear, I’m saying only this exact Beta version 1.93.121 is working well.
I can reproduce the black bar in the Release but not Nightly v1.95.24 and Beta v1.94.99. So it will naturally be fixed in some later updates, no need to report it, probably.
I reported about the play button here:

Now we just wait for them to work on it.
You mean these buttons :fast_reverse_button::fast_forward_button:? They will probably notice them when they check the pause button.

Right, I mean PiP small window buttons surrounding pause/play button,so hope they will notice them.

Regarding the black bar/stripe I have just installed Nightly 1.95.24 and then latest Nightly 1.95.26 on my phone, and unfortunately on both versions, the black bar/stripe issue is present. It may not appear immediately, but once video in horizontal full screen mode is swiped in different directions issue is appear on both versions. Seems issue consistently present in all versions.

Just quick update, latest 1.93.134 release and black bars and not working PiP media control buttons still there.
