Youtube adblocker not working anymore.
Used to watch YT ad free for years but YT has cottoned on to Brave and won’t play videos with the shields up.
Is this getting fixed?

Do you listen to Youtube music also on the browser ? - Just trying to find some patterns ?
I’d recommend taking a look at this post made by one of our modss:
This is known to happen from time to time as Youtube changes/updates their ad-block detection. Sometimes its Youtube doing A/B testing for these changes and so it only affects certain accounts, and other times it effects everyone.
Make sure your ad-block components are all up to date (you can do this in brave://components). If they are, try viewing youtube content while you’re not logged in and see if you still get the same results.
I completely forgot to mention that I started actually having the same issue but solved it by going to site settings, and blocking autoplaying of videos on YouTube’s domain. Now, I might see the error blip and flash as the page loads, but if I wait for the page to load, then press play, the videos work.
It’s seemingly happening if the video tries to play before something loads I honestly think.
Since then, I’ve seemingly eliminated it. As mentioned sometimes the error will “blip” before the thumbnail covers it, and if I’m simply patient and wait for the page to fully load first (and very important or it might freeze/buffer for 10-15 seconds), it just worked.
@Mattches and everyone else, it’s happening with me as well. It works in private window but not in normal. Normal thing of clearing just Google and YouTube cookies, or even cookies for all sites for all time did nothing. Turning off Shields and using uBlock Origin only also resulted in the same message.
That said, disabling all adblockers or just using in Private only would result in it playing. So yeah, it’s just the next wave of Google’s messing with things. Guessing it’s going to be us just giving it some time for content filters to be updated to address it, once it gets figured out. Or, worst case scenario, we just watch videos in Private for now.
Same issue happens on Chrome when using uBlock Origin Lite. So yeah, it’s definitely just a YouTube/Google being stupid with adblock detection for now.
thanks didnt try iotried delated the hhiustory and cookies dosent worked and upated every compent on mmy barve just hiope the2y will fix this
doesnt worked
go damm hope brave will update
Hi, just fyi, I have tried this method for the last hour or two and they’ve even hosed that option
If you are quick enough you can stop the message popping up by hitting the “stop loading” button right after the page appears, which does allow the play button to appear and to be pressed, but it doesn’t allow the rest of the page scripts to load so no full-screen or comments etc.
They really dropped one this time ![]()
Im seeing it occur ONLY when im logged into my google account. logged out everything plays fine.
tried clearing cookies, thought it fixed it. as soon as i log in, its back
Having the same issue i went to a private tab and it worked but dont sign in or it will just show up again
Hmm, so this gets weirder then, because so far over here it’s still working. However now I don’t want to clear my YouTube’s cache in case it breaks it. Sigh I hate Google, truly.
Happened to me too, following Reddit discussion, nobody found any solution so far. Reports from all around the globe…
We are aware of this issue and have our Shields devs taking a look presently.
Thank you! Much appreaciated.
Workaround: try toggling Shields Down, Up, Down, and the vid might play sans ads, even though shields are down. Seems to help a little.
Rock on Brave!
I’ve done a one liner revert on a recent uBlock fix causing issues for us and others, fix will be out in the next few hours.
Not sure if it’ll introduce ads or not, but hopefully it’ll fix the content not available issue.
Not seeing a resolution behind it right now - Also… I am pretty sure us a communnity members cant really do anything about it until brave admins can fix it. Us sharing temp fixes only hurts ourselves and helps Google. Im pretty sure they will figure it out… they always do ! I’ll check back in here in a few try not to go crazy like i will looking at ads for the next few days. Youtube Music is still funtional with no ads thankfully !
Not true, reporting what workarounds we find that may work (even if it helps one user) can help with determining what the root cause may be. You’ll never know if no one reports a found workaround, even if it only works for them. Anything can help to be ahead, because Google can see the filters and lists on GitHub, how do you think they work around things so quickly? It’s right there in plain view.
