Youtube "Distracting Elements" Now Not Working

Description of the issue:

I have enabled all 3 Youtube filters (that is - Block Youtube Shorts, Block Youtube distracting elements and Block Youtube recommened content)
Previously it was working just fine. Only thing I was able to view was the video on my screen and nothing else.

But now, I can view channel name, channel logo, video discription as well as comment section despite having the same filters active. I don’t want to see this.

I have not changed any settings, nor have I updated my browser recently.

I have only updated brave filter ( settings - Brave Shield & Privacy - Content Filtering - Update. )

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. In brave beta or Nightly on android, Go to settings - Go to media - Enable all 3 settings related to blocking youtube elements as mentioned above.
  2. Go to m.youtube.com - Search Any video - Click on any video
  3. Now you see video but also channel name, comment section and video description.

Expected result:
Brave only shows a blank screen with just youtube video playing and nothing around the video frame, not even channel name or video description or commend section. Just a blank screen with only the video That i clicked on playing. No shorts, No Comments, No Video description, No subscribe button, nothing

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave - Beta 1.80.95, Chromium 137.0.7151.61

Mobile Device details
Android 12

Additional Information:

I have following filters on -

Easylist cookie
All fanboy lists
All Youtube list
Bypass paywall clean filter
Adguard filter
Brave experimental rules filter

Kindly look into this as YT comment section is filled with Bots with NSFW profile pics and links.

I primarly use brave for Youtube for my child.

Thanks.

Hello … Anyone? Is no one else facing the same bug?

What distraction elements should look like;

@fanboynz it looks exactly like your screen, however that was not the case previously.

Previously, I could only see the video frame, and nothing else on the screen (which I prefered).

Now I see comments, Like/Dislikes, Subscribe, Views, Channel Name, etc. (Just like the screenshot you shared)

Makes me think, did some filter got updated recently or did youtube change something from backend, because the change from ‘just video frame’ to ‘the pic you shared’ happend around a week or two ago.

I prefered the much cleaner, smipler look previously :frowning:

Comparing to your screenshot, this is the only thing that was visible previously on the screen, and I loved it.

So the entire screen looked like this (ignore blur)

We changed it because there were complaints it was filtering too much

@fanboynz

Oh. That’s unfortunate :frowning:

Any method I could use to reverse that?

I loved the old clean look…

I despise NSFW bots that show up in YT comment section even without opening the comment section, especially on popular channels like “Carwow”

I wonder how someone complained about the previous cleaner version. It was so perfect.

We reverted the changes, it should be fixed

I just noticed that. Thank You @fanboynz & Developers.

This was the primary reason I use Brave becuase it allowed me to filterout concerning elements of the youtube.

That’s the whole purpose of enabling filters. People who enable these filters are literally looking for the clean UI. Those who want to browse YT as a whole never enable those filters.

I love the clean, simple look of YT. No shorts, No Comments, No recommended Content, No Video Description. No Bloat.

Tysm. :heart:

True. People who enable filters are looking for a more simpler and cleaner experience.
