Runing Brave on my Ubuntu laptop, everything is fully up todate. Last night before going to sleep everything was working fine. Turn my computer off go to work and come back today this evening and Brave is servery malfunctioning. 90% of the internet won’t load. Gmail, google, bank sites, work sites, ect. None of my locally hosted web based programs can be accesed(jellyfin, plex, radarr, sonarr, NAS, ect). Youtube works but only sort of. None of the video thumbnails will load but if I hover over the video the preview will start and if I click on it the page loads and the video starts playing. The comments won’t load and for any other video that is recommended on the side same issue. Thumbnails won’t load.
I was forced with no other option but to download another browser(firefox) just to get on the internet and try and figure out things. From fire fox everything works fine no issues what so ever. Thing I have tried to do to fix/troubleshoot the issue.

tried using a new private tab
tried using an incognito tab
I have a vpn installed but barely use it on this computer. I cycled that on and off to no avail
tried disabling the brave shield for any site and it won’t let me
I even went through the whole old school windows extreme of rebooting the computer and no fix, uninstalled brave and reinstalled it and its still doing the same thing.
tried adding filters
I have been running brave on this computer since I installed Ubunutu nearly 2 years ago and have never had an issue until now. The fact that I can use firefox with no issue compounded by the fact that I can SSH into my server and 2 NAS with no issue and use RDP to connect to a different linux computer I have on my network tells me this HAS to be a brave issue and not a computer issue. If I"m wrong I will eat my crow but how do I go about trying to troubleshoot this and fix it. I have come to love brave and was cringing as I was forced to install firefox just to try and get some troubleshooting information.
In order to find out, if the Brave Browser application itself, will be inclined to run well …
Option A:
Step 1. Create a new administrative level Linux OS user account
Step 2. Exit / Quit everything and restart the computer
Step 3. Sign in as that new administrative user
Step 4. Run Brave Browser
Option B:
Step 1. Find the Executable Path: at ‘brave://version’
Step 2. On the basis of that Executable Path, you will use one of (or vary close to being, one of):
Note 1. --incognito → Opens the browser in private mode.
Note 2. --disable-extensions → Prevents all extensions from loading.
Note 3. --user-data-dir="$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/BraveTemp01" → Initializes a fresh, independent Brave Browser users data structure within that folder named “BraveTemp01”.
For the test, the browser will use:
~/.config/BraveSoftware/BraveTemp01/
instead of:
~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/
If Brave Browser runs properly - using this fresh users data directory - that would suggest that something in your original Brave Browser users data environment is involved in the problem.
If Brave Browser does not run properly - using this fresh users data directory - then the original Brave Browser users data environment is much less likely to be the cause.
I presented the issue to ChatGPT, and discussed how to test and detect. My conclusion of all that, is to suggest that a Brave Browser (Linus OS) user with the issue, visits 'https://chatgpt.com" and enters a prompt, there:
I am a Brave Browser user on Linux and I am experiencing ERR_ACCESS_DENIED.
Please help me diagnose this problem step-by-step.
I am willing to provide information about my Linux distribution, Brave version, installation method, logs, command output, and Brave diagnostic information such as brave://net-export/.
Please start by asking me for the minimum information you need, then guide me through appropriate diagnostic tests one step at a time.
Please explain what each diagnostic step is intended to determine.
I would try to determine WHICH LAYER is responsible:
Website
↓
DNS / proxy / routing / network
↓
Linux
↓
Snap confinement / AppArmor / seccomp (if applicable)
↓
Brave / Chromium

I had very, very similar issue since a couple of days (lots of web sites and even local web pages like NAS or Lyrion Music Server with ERR_ACCESS_DENIED). I don’t know if it can help but everything works fine after updating to Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS.
well that was the fix. ever since I installed ubuntu the gui updated from the settings . . . window would never update is said something to the extent about bad repositories and I could just close it out and use the terminal to update. When I was trying to figure out to upgrade to ubuntu 26.4 from what I was running I learned there was other commands in the terminal that I wasn’t using to keep my system up today. So after scouring the interwebs for possible fix I learned there was an issue with the ubuntu 24.2 updater. One article to said to sit and let it keep running after the failed repository error and eventually the system would update. I did that and the system updated even more than from using the command line. Once that was fully uptodate which took a good 10 or 15 minutes. I could go back to the gui updater program and upgrade to ubutnu 26.4. Once that was installed and with a system reboot Brave started working. Don’t know what happened to cause the issue to begin with its fixed now.
