When I unmute a video by clicking the speaker icon on the video player itself, the tab in the tab bar then shows the muted (no speaker) icon. I have to unmute the video and also allow sound on the tab before I can hear anything.

When I unmute a video by clicking the speaker icon on the video player itself, the tab in the tab bar then shows the muted (no speaker) icon. I have to unmute the video and also allow sound on the tab before I can hear anything.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a page with a video (e.g. YouTube or similar)
  2. Click the speaker icon on the video to unmute it
  3. Look at the tab in the tab bar — it shows the muted icon
  4. Sound only works after also unmuting the tab

Expected
Unmuting the video should also allow sound for that tab (or at least not force a second unmute on the tab).

Actual
I have to allow sound in two places: on the video and on the tab.

What OS are you using? I do not see this behavior on macOS or Win11 systems. Muting the video player does not mute the tab itself.

Windows 11 Pro. Un-muting the video mutes the tab.

Do you have any extensions installed in the browser? If so, can you please try disabling them and see if this makes any difference in the behavior?

It seems to have fixed itself. Thank you to those who helped.
