Unable to turn on Brave Shield

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced:

  1. running a Brave debloater “https://github.com/ltx0101/SlimBrave/blob/main/README.md”

  2. deleting all policies for brave (thought if i did this and reinstalled, the issue would be resolved)

Expected result: being able to turn on brave shield

Brave Version( check About Brave): 142.1.84.139

Additional Information:

Not something I’ve seen before (SlimBrave) so not sure how much I can be of assistance here. Looks like it’s just a script to toggle on/off various policies in the browser.

If you changed everything back to default and then reinstalled and still aren’t able to use Shields, then one or more policies may not have been reset. If you go to brave://policy in the browser, do you see any active policies listed?

none of my policies are active / on, how would I turn them on and which should I turn on

@YashuuBatman what do you see when you go to brave://policy?

@YashuuBatman and you’re saying you still can’t enable Shields?

yeah whenever I click the toggle button on shields, it turns on and then instantaneously turns off.

@YashuuBatman main thing here is not knowing if anything else is going on. You may need to reference like https://github.com/ltx0101/SlimBrave/issues/19#issuecomment-3101375688

Not sure if resetting Brave’s settings and/or SlimBrave would be the goal like it mentions.

I guess I’d just start with this.

First person’s suggestion:

If you’re experiencing issues with the Brave Shields, follow these steps to reset all settings using the SlimBrave tool:

Steps

  1. Close the Brave browser completely.
  2. Launch the SlimBrave tool.
  3. Click the Reset All Settings button.
  4. Exit SlimBrave.
  5. Reopen the Brave browser.

Your Brave Shields should now be reset, and the issues should be resolved.

Second person’s suggestion:

The way that worked for me:

  1. Clear registry entries (or use Reset All Settings in PS script assuming it does the same)
  2. Open brave → go settings → reset settings (on the left bar)
  3. Enjoy. Now Brave Shields should be working and you can use PS script again.

It appears it is disabling it this way via a PowerShell script.

I don’t know anything about PowerShell sadly (more of a batch/cmd person), but perhaps there’s a value somewhere internally this may have set?
