Título: Android – Facebook videos do not keep screen awake; display turns off according to screen timeout
Hello Brave Team,
I am experiencing an issue with Facebook video playback in Brave on Android.
Device: Huawei P30 Lite
Operating system: Android / EMUI
Brave Stable: 1.96.59
Chromium: 154.0.8037.58
Problem
When I watch videos on Facebook using Brave, the phone’s entire screen turns off after reaching the configured Android screen timeout.
For example:
-
If the screen timeout is set to 2 minutes, the display turns off after approximately 2 minutes while the Facebook video is still playing.
-
If I change the screen timeout to 10 minutes, the display remains on beyond 3 minutes while watching the same type of video.
This suggests that Facebook video playback in Brave is not requesting or maintaining the Android screen wake lock.
Comparison with Chrome
The same Facebook videos work normally in Google Chrome on the same Huawei P30 Lite.
Chrome keeps the screen awake during video playback.
YouTube also works normally.
Tests already performed
I have already tested:
-
Restarting Brave and the phone.
-
Clearing Brave cache.
-
Brave Shields disabled for Facebook.
-
Facebook in Brave private/incognito mode.
-
Facebook desktop-site mode.
-
Brave Stable.
-
Brave Beta.
-
Vulkan enabled and disabled.
-
Hardware-accelerated video decode enabled and disabled.
-
Different Android screen timeout values.
The problem remains in Brave Stable and Brave Beta.
Google Chrome does not have this problem on the same device.
Expected behavior
While a Facebook video is actively playing, Brave should prevent Android from automatically turning off the display, in the same way that Chrome does.
Actual behavior
Brave does not appear to keep the display awake. Android therefore turns off the entire screen when the configured screen timeout is reached.
Thank you for investigating this issue.
