The problem with the highest ratio of user frustration to resolution? BLOCKED DOWNLOADS

“Everybody complains about the weather but nobody does anything about it"

I just spent 2 hours again trying to fix a problem that MANY have complained about (see below), yet there still seems no solution: downloads BLOCKED, with the option to hit “keep this file”.

The unforunate result of this problem is that often you will download a bunch of files, only to realise too late they didn’t actually arrive on your PC.

Is it possible to build in a feature that over-rides this? For those of us who don’t need their hand held by mummy?

Can I hear an amen lol?!

@TimInOz

I would test the following possible workaround for Brave Browser (Windows OS) users . . .

1st Open an elevated Command Prompt

  • Press Start, type cmd
  • Right‑click “Command Prompt” → Run as administrator

2nd Create the following directory Symbolic Link

  • cd C:\Users<Username>\Documents
  • mklink /D “DownloadsMirror” “C:\Users<Username>\Downloads”

3rd In a Brave Browser New Window, go to: brave://settings/downloads and set the default downloads folder to:

  • C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\DownloadsMirror

And take a look at the test files for downloading:

Still cannot download more than one file from any web page - #2 by 289wk

In addition to an alternative therein, I wrote about (I use a Mac):

Within my /Users/username/Downloads folder, I have an additional folder named Firefox_DOWNLOADS/Users/username/Downloads/Firefox_DOWNLOADS ← that is set to be my default downloads folder.

Some Brave Browser users have reported, that the following Safe Browsing switch needs to be Disabled / Enabled (you mentioned that in your OP screenshot, but I wanted to add the following screenshot):

IDM Integration Module extension might be a problem?

Thanks, I will try it and report back

@TimInOz I think your definition of MANY is substantially different from mine or even the dictionary. Using your screenshots for reference, there were like 8 different topics over a course of 4 years. And if you look at replies, they never exceeded 12.

On the Reddit screenshot, it’s covering 5 years and only has 5 posts. The highest comments on that is 20, but most had 3-6 at most. Not sure what was said on them.

But when you know there are millions of users, having only about 12 people complain about something is quite miniscule and would not be a big call for action. This is especially when it’s in relation to privacy and security.

I think you shared the wrong chat.

Rather than reviewing AI chat, might be helpful to know the specific things you tried anyway. Did you change the flag for it? Disable safe browsing?

You counted them all? Nice!
Yes, disabling safe browsing was the first thing I tried.
I won’t post the right chat here because in reviewing it I just realised I was rather direct in describing my frustration lol.
If I get time I will give you a run-down of all the things: about 10.

lol, sorry. Just was trying to think about how often I’ve seen this come up in general and then was looking at what you showed. I’m sure there’s more than you had on it but I was also trying to look through a realistic lens in terms of how many are reporting it and frustrated compared to total users.

Just to confirm, did you change the flag I showed in the screenshot as well? Talking about at brave://flags. I’m trying to remember if people have been successful with it but it is what it’s thereto prevent. In my screenshot it was set to disabled but you would want to enable it and then make sure safe browsing is off in Brave’s settings.

Haha, I hear you.

Cool. It will be helpful to know in relation to everything. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I actually saw the blocked download thing. Then again, I don’t download much.

Oh, while you’re at it, could you be sure to share which version of Brave you’re on and which specific OS?
