Whenever I use Brave and then open a New Private Window, the issue occurs: closing tabs requires two clicks instead of just one. But also, after using a Private Window when I want to Update or QuitBrave, they do not work either, no response. I have to Force Quit Brave each time.
And this always happens after using a Private Window.
This has been a weird bug for years now, but I’ve only been able to replicate it recently after realizing it happens after a New Private Window is opened, which affects all other open Brave windows as well (private or not).
How can this issue be reproduced?
Open Browser Window.
Open a New Private Window.
Use then and close the Private Window.
At some point, all tabs require two clicks on (X) to close them. And Brave needs to be force-quit to fix this.
Expected result:
The tabs should just close on a single click, and the browser should just close on “Quit.”
Brave Version( check About Brave):
v1.84.135. (But it has been an issue since v1.19.88 in 2021.)
Additional Information:
I’ve seen a similar topic about this here, but that solution did not work for me, and I don’t think it’s any extension, as this is very specific to Private Windows, causing it, and none of my extensions are enabled for private windows.
@TheTotalLegend can you please tell me what version of macOS you’re using? Not seeing this on my end in the latest build of the browser (v1.84.141) running on macOS Tahoe 26.1.
Additionally:
Just because an extension(s) isn’t running in a private window doesn’t mean it can’t have an effect on the browser. In fact, the issue as you’re describing it seems to be that Private windows function just fine, but once that Private window is closed, the issue with needing to double-click tabs occurs in standard browsing windows until the browser is force closed.
I would recommend disabling your extensions and testing to see if the issue persists. Alternatively, you can create a fresh profile (Menu --> more tools --> Add profile) with no extensions and test using the new profile (make sure your original profile window is closed, so that only the new profile is open when testing this way) to see if you can reproduce the issue there.
