When mousing over my tabs (horizontal at the top, not vertical sidebar) I’m getting this odd jitter when moving from tab to tab where the little popup that shows the full title stutters a bit before properly showing. I compared it with Chrome and it doesn’t seem to have this issue.
Oddly, if I keep mousing over different tabs it will slow down a youtube video that’s playing in the selected tab until I stop.
@Shodingus,
Can you please tell me what version of Windows you’re using, the browser version you’re using and whether or not you have any extensions installed in the browser at this time?
I’m on Windows 10, the browser version is 1.79.123 and I have the extensions Sponsorblock for youtube, theater mode for youtube and Yomitan popup dictionary.
As far as I know I didn’t change any of my settings when this started happening. It may be related or unrelated but I had to change one of the flags (choose ANGLE graphics backend) to OpenGL because mousing over youtube videos would cause slowdown. I already checked if putting that flag back to default would fix it.
I tried but sadly the issue still occurs so I don’t it’s related to the extensions. I recorded the jitter through OBS if there’s a way to upload video, might help give insight
Or upload to a site like imgur.com then paste the link into the editor.
As for the issue, if you launch Brave and go to Menu --> More tools --> Guest profile to launch a guest profile window, then close your original profile window and open some tabs in the Guest profile, do you still see the same jittering?
I’ve updated your permissions and you should now be able to upload attachments. Additionally, can you try turning Graphics Acceleration off in in Brave by going to Settings --> System and see if this makes any difference?
So to revisit this. With graphics acceleration disabled this problem stops, but then if I mouse over a video it will slow down until the in-video taskbar disappears again. So I’ve turned graphics acceleration on again and I’m stuck with the tab jitter again
Hey thanks for noticing
Hard to believe I’ve been working here for so many years – still an honor and a privilege to do so.
As for the issue I’m not super clear on what the best solution here is. You could of course turn off the tab hover preview which would stop the issue in the most blunt way possible, but I’m assuming that you want to have the tab preview enabled. I also thought that maybe it’s a more general issue with your graphics card but if you’re not seeing this in Chrome then that’s probably not it.
Would you mind testing this in the Beta build of the browser and see if the issue reproduces there? Note that downloading/installing/running the Beta will not overwrite your current install – it will install as a separate browser. You’re welcome to uninstall it once you’re done testing as well.
This may help us at least narrow it down a bit further to see if it’s a general Brave issue for you or if the issue is specific to your stable install/current profile.
I wonder if it’s maybe the number of tabs you have open in your stable profile or potentially a specific tab you have open that is causing the weird jittering.
In your stable profile, can you try disabling the tab hover preview, relaunching the browser, then toggling it back on, relaunch again and see if the jitteryness is still present?
Card and card with preview both cause the jitter but tooltip does not, but with tooltip I have to hover over each tab for a second for it to pop up instead of hovering on one and then being able to basically slide my mouse over others and having them pop up instantly
