Some settings not carrying over from appdata directory copy

I recently reinstalled Windows on my laptop. Before doing so, I made sure to copy the entire “BraveSoftware” folder from AppData\Local. After setting up Windows again, I copied that folder back into the same location, and most of my bookmarks and settings were successfully restored.

However, I noticed that my extensions no longer appear. The data for them seems to exist, but I still have to reinstall each extension. For example, no extensions show up initially, but when I reinstall Bitwarden from the web store, it automatically loads my username and server settings. The same thing happens with my other extensions — it’s as if the extension data is there, but the extensions themselves need to be reinstalled.

I also noticed that a few settings don’t carry over when I copy the BraveSoftware folder. For instance, I always have to switch the default search engine back to Google and re-enable the Home button.

Am I missing something? Is there another folder or configuration file that needs to be copied in order to fully transfer my Brave setup to a new PC?

Re issue “the extensions themselves need to be reinstalled” ← no surprise

Re issue “always have to switch the default search engine back to Google”

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://prefs-internals

Search for character string: "default_private_search_provider_data":

For that portion of the Preferences, look at lines beginning with:

*"favicon_url":
*"short_name":
*"suggestions_url":
*"url":

Their trailing character strings (their values) should all have “google” or “Google” in them.

Re issue “re-enable the Home button”

In the same brave://prefs-internals window, search for character string: "show_home_button"

For "value": you should see true
